Literature and Art

For people who read and enjoy good literature--literary classics or literary contemporary and like to make art about it.  Using literature as inspiration for our art.  Also for people interested in writing letters about literature.  This is also a meeting place for The New Arzamas Literary Circle, which is dedicated to writing creative letters on literary topics.

LITERATURE and ART

TOP:

Handmade Ezra Pound (Ezruckus Poundamonium) paper doll for a series of skits in which E.P is the main star. --Theresa Williams

MIDDLE:

Automatic writing by Nancy Bell Scott.

BOTTOM:

One of a set of cards made while contemplating the poet Theodore Roethke.  On November 12, Roethke suffered the first of what was to be many mental episodes.  It happened in the cold Michigan woods, and he described the experience as having a "secret" revealed to him, which he said was the secret of "Nijinsky."  Nijinsky was a famous ballet dancer who was institutionalized for schizophrenia.  With your permission, I'd like to post your artwork at my blog:  The Letter Project.   I'm also looking for letters about literature and creativity.  All works from the blog have gone through the postal system.

Qatar: perpetuity to have criticized the emir

On Thursday, November 29th, 2012, 16:20

A Qatari poet was condemned on Thursday to the life imprisonment to have criticized the emir and praised the "Arab Spring", which Doha encouraged in Libya, in Egypt, in Tunisia, in the Yemen and in Syria. Mohamed Ibn al Dhib al Adjami was judged in particular for " incentive(incitement) in the reversal of the power ready(in position) ", a count of indictment liable to the death penalty.

" It is a scandalous denial of justice! ", his(her, its) lawyer(avocado) Naguib al Naïmi after the statement of the verdict got indignant. The 36-year-old artist, who did not attend the audience, is held(detained) since near one year in the isolation and no member(limb) of his(her) family was able to visit him(her), he indicated.

Stunning new poem from a friend «in arms», one of his best so far, if you ask me:

 THE DEPOSITION

I am the Babylonian messenger
the last splinter of sun golding
the window in the tower

I alone survive to tell you
we knotted the sack tight
not a drop leaked out
and buried the ocean under
a hump of grass so deep
the moths can't get at it

I leave you with this
a dream of the ocean
a memory of footprints
on the skin of the water

From Irina Tihonova, Ukraine
A tribute to the Russian poet Osip Mandelstam.

Unhappy he who, like his shadow,

...

Frighteningly barking and wind mows,
And the poor person who's half-dead
   In the shadow of begging.
