IUOMA MOBMA (Museum of Bad Mail Art)

IUOMA MOBMA (Museum of Bad Mail Art)

I frequent thrift stores looking for frames and canvases that I can re-use. I find something sad and intriguing about the handmade art that finds its' way into the donation piles.  As an offshoot of the amazing Museum of Bad Art  (MOBA) http://www.museumofbadart.org/

I am hoping we can assemble a unique collection of the ugliest reject art out there. This can be one you find, something you have made, bad industrial art for the masses, or mail art flunks.  There is beauty in imperfection.

love these! particularly the cosmetic surgery piece. It's bad, it's frightening, it's a contender

Finally, and also from Vizma, this strange thing that looks like a face imprint. It turned out to be a cosmetic surgery, truly is the ice on the cake!

Vizma's whimsical world and reliable mix of everyday, poorly purchased accessories and goals do not however make this an obvious candidate to the contest. But sometimes everything depends on the presentation (possible shooting) Please see details below.

Contributions to the Bad Mail-Art Contest have arrived. Big thanks to Vizma and Rebecca! The theme is something with shipwrecked or whatever you think fit on Bad Mail-Art. I have not yet documented Rebecca's work, but it's coming.

As unaccustomed as I am to public statements, I want to thank MOBMA for bestowing the Bad Romance Award upon me. This is really special, since I didn't actually submit anything. This confirms MOBMA's astute assessment that when it comes to Mail-Art and Bad Romance, you cannot beat my record.

I want to thank the people behind the scenes who made it possible for me to receive the Bad Romance Award. First, there's DK. She founded MOBMA, barely avoiding a serious copyright dispute. More important are those who spit at the thought of me. In fact, the "model" in the ridiculous outfit who graces the entrance to the MOBMA is one such individual. She alone could provide enough (groundless) hatred & vitriol to enable me to receive the Bad Romance Award.

I do believe it is true that Bad Mail-Art and Bad Romance go, as they say, hand in hand. That is why MOBMA is so important as an institution. So your continued support of DKULT and Trashpo are essential, that is if you dream that someday YOU could be HERE in front of the silver microphone receiving a Bad Romance Award.

Finally, many thanks to Rebecca for the Bad Romance concept.

Carry on, comrades.
