IUOMA MOBMA (Museum of Bad Mail Art)

Information

IUOMA MOBMA (Museum of Bad Mail Art)

I frequent thrift stores looking for frames and canvases that I can re-use. I find something sad and intriguing about the handmade art that finds its' way into the donation piles.  As an offshoot of the amazing Museum of Bad Art  (MOBA) http://www.museumofbadart.org/

I am hoping we can assemble a unique collection of the ugliest reject art out there. This can be one you find, something you have made, bad industrial art for the masses, or mail art flunks.  There is beauty in imperfection.

I'm glad the USPS didn't confiscate it Thom--thought you might enjoy some imported Chicago ants. They are down to earth, but have an attitude

yes DVS--I named Adam after Adam Ant ! Brittish pop forever!!

Great post, Thom.

Adam and Andy Ant? Does anyone possibly remember Adam and the Ants (one of Malcolm McLaren's manufactured pop groups after the Sex Pistols?)

Clocking-in with one week to spare before the current contest's month-end deadline, Diane Keys sends in this powerful entry for the Museum of Bad Mail Art:

And in case you were wondering, those are actual "dead ants" trapped underneath cello-tape on the back of the card:

no postage due whatsoever. I think someone should take away your glue stick more often:)

Oh Diane, you're insane!  Was the postage adequate? I have this suspicion that I put insufficient postage on everything I sent from the airport!

I was confused when Rebecca said she made me something on her recent plane ride. Yesterday a Bad Art Contest entry from her arrived!!  I don't think it's bad at all though-it is quite wonderful!

Thom--there is no time crunch whatsoever. As the esteemed judge, you can decide how long or short the contest will be. It was roughly a monthly thing, but this group ascribes to anarchy, much to V Marque's dismay, so it could be what ever you decide. Please do not get drunk with this power though. We definately need more entries for the contest. The bad art group has the same philosophy as you Thom-that the only bad art is the art that was never made. Vizma--that is definately disgusting. Didn't you send me a chunk of kangaroo once?

Well, I must admit being bitterly disappointed... I have nearly been awarded the coveted price on a few occasions.  But alas, sadly, even Diane couldn't secure a win for me so I have been watching progress from the edge of the group and noticed that the bad art was drying up. 'AHA,' I thought, 'perhaps this is my chance to land something on Diane's doorstep that will make me a winner.'  So I posted something from the airport on one of those days I was traveling, pretty convinced that I had it in the bag. Talk about picking a bad week for bad art! Great BAD stuff, superlative to mine - Vizma is pretty definitely going to win.

That stuff on Vizma's piece looks like my hair when I comb it with an eggbeater, which is often. Thom, I like these pieces too! Honestly. Dean's is so cheerful to me; it and I are getting along really well.

Would just like to say, that my prize mail art piece from Vizma arrived, and *MIGHT* be a contestant for this very contest for which it was awarded...

Under "gross" factor, it comes in only second to the skunk fur that I got from Diane one time!!!  See for yourself:

Can't tell if that came out of a vacuum filter, or from the sink drain!!
