IUOMA MOBMA (Museum of Bad Mail Art)

IUOMA MOBMA (Museum of Bad Mail Art)

I frequent thrift stores looking for frames and canvases that I can re-use. I find something sad and intriguing about the handmade art that finds its' way into the donation piles.  As an offshoot of the amazing Museum of Bad Art  (MOBA) http://www.museumofbadart.org/

I am hoping we can assemble a unique collection of the ugliest reject art out there. This can be one you find, something you have made, bad industrial art for the masses, or mail art flunks.  There is beauty in imperfection.

I support public transportation - but, Bad Art Bus Stops, make me want to hop in a Hummer and floor it...This one is located in Seminole, FLA (fittingly, just outside the new Wal*Mart)

Dan! I missed this one! Oooer, bad cake indeed, why would someone decorate a cake with mushrooms? The mind boggles...

In preparing to haul away multiple boxes and crates of stuff from my mother's life, I gain a little insight into how thrift stores manage to accumulate so much bad art. Here is one of the least bad art bits from Mom's vast collection.

Bad Cake Art especially culled from the 'New for dear friends and correspondents FakeFineArt and Vizma Bruns.

The submissions for Bad Romance have dried up! I did get something from Spain that I might have mistook for Bad romance - along the lines of DK's submission - but it is labeled Maritime Mail art?

If there are any last minute entries, let me know, otherwise I will make my decision and send out prizes!

Even richer…  the tag line on her Etsy site is: "Promoting All Methods of Mail Art."

Apparently all methods except FREE exchange.

Holy.    Crap.

Amazing find, Dan.  That Jill Stoll on her Etsy site ought to be [insert favorite expletive here*] ashamed of herself.  Seriously.  Selling Mail Art subscriptions??  What will people try to capitalize on next, I wonder?   Too bad there's not a way to hack her Etsy page to re-direct it here to IUOMA (not that I would ever advocate such rogue technical malfeasance).  But wouldn't that be the perfect justice for someone trying to merchandize Mail Art.

Well, we should all respond in solidarity by releasing as much FREE Mail Art into the world as possible.  Oh wait… we already do that!!

*BTW, my favorite expletives are "jimminy crickets," and "fudgcrackers."

CLEAN mail art? gasp! A clean plain envelope isn't mail art at all is it? then it's just mail.  how weird--impersonal mail art delivery? That's like having a handwritten letter of the month club. A stranger sends you a handwritten letter that will ultimately be meaningless to you.  Although I have been sending out trashpo of the month club kits....
