Democratize Art
release early, release often.
copyright is a barrier to free flow of artistic creation. remove it.
promote the free exchange of art.
dissolve proprietary art.

some more thoughts on free art, from a discussion with sue bowen! ;-D
basically, the idea behind FREE ART is just FLUXUS, according to this definition,
with a more blatant name on the label, and with the no copyright logo smacked on top.
i you read that definition, it is very clear in what it is after: freedom of art.
but the term FLUXUS doesn't really do the movement justice.
and, according to DVS, a lot of "FLUXUS" artists copyright their works,
sell them, etc. it seems to me that it has lost its direction,
and been watered down. I REALLY LIKE THE IDEAS THERE,
and when the name "FREE ART" came to me in a flash of inspiration,
i divulged it to DVS, he said start a movement.
that's what i did.
POSTmodernism was based on William Gibson's Agrippa.
William Gibson has a lot of ideas on art and it's value as a commodity,
these are ideas amanda and I have been tossing around
since well before i ever heard of FLUXUS.
then when MLAAC gave me the link to that definition,
i was thrown aback. it was the most perfect little
explanation for all the ideas we'd been talking about.
democratize art.
that is the phrase it all boiled down to.
democratize art.
FREE ART.
it's not necessarily about giving away your art for no money,
it's about taking art away from the upper class, elitists, snobs,
and giving it back to the masses.
that's where art belongs.
and another point i touched on in messages with mim,
is the idea of mass production of art during the nazi reign,
and how hitler used mass produced art and film to
influence the masses. now the masses have the power
at their fingertips to drive forward progress, to take control.
in our current technologic era, anyone can connect to the
internet, upload some pictures and mass-distribute them
nearly instantaneously. the more people use artistic expression
freely, without worries of infringing copyrights, trademarks,
whathaveyou, but just make something and get i out there,
express their minds, the faster civilization can move forward.
freeing art is a big deal. IMHO.
i'm playing with the idea of trying to make the most ridiculous "one-upmanship" type statements abou free art as possible. really inflate it's ego!!!
all slogans welcome!
