I would think Free Art would be something to take ..not something stickered. It would be graffiti then..

@mlaac: you mentioned your friend getting in trouble for posting stickers on mailboxes. i was thinking sticky tacked on bathroom stalls, where you're much less apt to get in trouble (sticky tack is not nearly as adhesive/damaging and stalls are far more private!). i've been thinking about putting together some packets of info / digital art prints for free art together slowly with some of my free time, i'm definitely looking for ideas of what sorts of things to include. i'd really like to come up with some flyers that are more blatant about what free art's aims are, i love that fluxus manifesto thing but it's way too wordy. and certainly could use some more variety of FREE ART themed digital works, if anyone wants to submit some stuff for mass reproduction!

if any of you would like to write a short essay on what free art means to you, i'd love to post some differing ideas from folks on the blog. nothing fancy, nothing formal, unless that's your thing. a lot of you have expressed some semblance of your opinions, i'd like to get them more substantiated. no judgements, no critiques, just let your words flow free. ;-D

IMHO, the essence of art lies in the act of creating.

it is something you cannot put a price tag on, experience.

there is no "final product."

everything in this universe is just atoms being rearranged.

sifted, sorted, recombined, separated.

harmonic humming of strings.

nothing is static, everything is change.

all is process.

slap a price tag on it,

put a flag in it.

it's still not yours.

it's just "stuff."

i dont think any one model is universally correct. if you wanna keep it, sell it, own it, cast it to the wind - it's all cool by me. just be honest about your motives.

IMHO, the "free" in free art is about creating without being focused on the product. you can't steal my ideas, just the products of them. so if someone wants to swipe my product (and it's happened), they'll find a way. i can fight or i can know that i am the source and make something new.

moving backwards takes so much time and energy away from moving forward.

if code is your product, i say stake your claim and get what you deserve. if art is your product, same thing.
