My home computer works..but I don't have net connection right now..so I write..while I have a break at work..and it is hard to think in my own head..lots of noise going on.people talk to me..even if when I am untra busy..they are waiting for my dry mean humor...LOL

I been researching addresses to try as a group..Meaning..if people send me a few post cards..to add to mine..we can send to random places..I found two french coffee shops, a local radio station, a German coffee shop..

To send to businesses..I found they don't always connect back. it would me nice just to know the art arrived..

i really liked the idea of sending art to businesses, especially when i thought of chain food/coffee joints where workers have a very mundane sort of existence, and need some change in their routine! mcdonalds, starbucks, any of those kind of mcjobs!

i really think HAVM is onto something with this!

this was a message from HAVM, and i tried to prod him into posting it here, but i think i confuzzled him, so i'm just posting it anyways. i think he has some really good insights on how to bring non-artists' interest to free art/fluxus:

I read on your free art..about giving art away to people..and not other artists..I tried that in NYC..I don't know the impact..

I also look up businesses and send random art to them. The day of the internet..it is easy to look up businesses and addresses..I collect different ideas..and send art..Like Hollywood hair dressers, Bars in Ireland, Larger then life companies, small pizza joints, and it really goes on and on and on..When I send art out now..I send at least 80 persent of my mailing to unexpected strangers..Just to see what happens..I have an xls sheet ..that I am "Trying" to keep track of it..but I am sure I missed a lot of it..

I also found commuities boards..the "Cork Boards"..they have them at Issacs, sheetz and 7-11. I just put in plastic "Dime bags"..and just tack them up. I have had some people email me they got the art doing that..I am sure your city has places like that..I also thing..World business card exchange is a great idea..Get other artist business cards..and post it local..put in in the fish bowls..to win free coffee..or what ever..but have world artist give it to each other..confuse the system..

Another idea,,very Local coffee shops..should allow you to drop off "Free" art for whom ever takes it. Long as it is not all over powering..eye soar.. Have a call..for the soul purpose for anyone to that the post card..at a business..and have people from each state to do this..Think about the impact..of saying "My art is in every state"..do this all over the world? My art is in every country. etc..my art is in ever irish bar..

I think your wife is right..about handing stuff out..People thinks it is a sale..There has to be away..for people who wants the art..to take it..

Also. most larger collages has these comminties boards..in the campus..I been trying to get a friend of mine to take a road trip to different colleges to leave art/business cards. MY only goal in it..is to have my art more searched on line.. start a trend of interest.

Another note..Flicker has free use of art..if you put it in your page. YOu can post art and say..you can post it..reuse the art..long as I have credit..My Friend does this..and put my art on his sight..on just part of page..it does put my art on web pages..and put photo credit..It is "free use art".

google.com/profiles/foundmeart  Goto the first link..the flicker page..

If I was or were clever i would send tyou the links, but I'm not so you can find them yourself.

In today's (3 June) on-line edition of the Daily Telegraph (of London) in the section, "Latest UK News", there's an article entitled "Is this Art or Rubbish?" [we don't have to debate that here and now, or here and ever: that's not my point]. It refers to an Art: Free For All Exhibition at the Alexandra Palace in London.

You might want to follow up these references which cole FREE to you from me.

If you can get Free art into people's homes or offices, it stands less chance of being binned, me thinks;

but going the mail art way i think i'd rather send to non-artists who would get more of a jolt from something unexpected!

thanks val!

i'll think about it.

my plan was to give them out to the public tomorrow or sunday at our arts festival, but my wife was suggesting to send them to non-artists: authors, professors, etc. there are folks running the stands at the art festival, i could pass out the free art to them instead of the general public, but i don't know it would have any different effect. my worry was that my wife said people give handouts downtown all the time and people aren't really all that interested, whereas mail art usually seems to get a bigger reaction: "wtf is this??"

Possible 'targets' could include the local media (arts correspondents) and local politicians (arts & culture ctee chairs) and art shops to maximise and multiply effect. Just a thought....Val

amanda brought up an alternative to handing out my free art envelopes, instead to mail them to non-mail artists / general public folks. i think val's talked about doing this before. does anyone have any good suggestions on where to scour for addresses? what kind of people do you think i'd want to target to good effect? i have some 50+ envelopes with art i've received and a flyer for fluxus inside. i'm trying to figure out how to best make use of these.
