Bonjour! I'm anti-computers and anti-computing in general, so, as you could imagine I don't have much sympathy for this at all -- but I can see that it has attractions for the superhero. To me, the Mail in Mail Art is all about postal mail not email. Full stop.
Also i would think that one strategically placed piece of Free Art would have the potential to be seen by a greater number of people than a scamily distributed email.
Where are you going to get the email addresses from?
Regards, Herman's Hermit (whose computer was hacked into this week with disastrous results)
i've been thinking on the giving aspect of FREE ART, and have been mass producing postcards of my recent digital works to send people through the mail, but i'm beginning to play with mass emails of my art. i will be attempting to throw out mass emails for the next few weekends with digital artworks in them for various emails i have collected. i think this goes quite well along with the mass production of art called for through the FLUXUS manifesto which has been discussed earlier, and was the basis for FREE ART; and i think the idea of email is much more economical, and goes great with what the whole idea of FREE ART is all about! it costs nothing but bandwidth, which is essentially free for a mass email, and gets the art to a wide audience near-instantaneously!
i'd like to hear everyone's thoughts on this. it is certainly edging toward "spam," but you could argue so it HAVM's whole idea, or most any other method of getting your art to the audience. But i think spam is a great way to get your art to the audience, regardless.
anyone have any thoughts on the matter?
i'm interested in anyone's experiences with email art.
so, HAVM has been shooting some more really great ideas my way, and we've been on a thread concerning sending FREE ART to corporations, my first response was that corporations wouldn't be interested in FREE ART, but he persisted, giving examples of their support and responses in his own art.
i was thinking if you wanted even more involvement, we could send letters asking for their employees to send us THEIR art, with the company's logo or theme, and we would give them free advertising in exchange for their troubles in promoting FREE ART!
i think this would be a great opportunity to crack into the corporate McJobesque world, and try to bring a morsel of creativity back into the line of assembly!
to me, the idea sounds absolutely brilliant, but it is at least partially mine, so i am probably biased! ;-D
any criticisms?
please?
it's a good idea, you want to do it?
i'd be glad to make some copies for the packets!

You should get photos of Protesters..and put your Free Art Logo..on it..Do it like 80-90's punk concerts..fliers..
