everything is asemic and not asemic,

it is all in the context.

Re cyrillic/greek alphabet, i actually learned to read it a little bit when I did cataloguing at the library, but no, i don;t read it really.

however, alphabets/languages that are foreign to one, do have meaning: the meaning - at least in part - is in the graphics of the signs. I had a friend years ago, who was translating the Odyssey from the Greek into English; but as he didn;t read Greek, he translated it from the graphic nature of the letters. he said the results were fairly close to the original. (I never saw those results, so only have his word for it...)

Comment by John M. Bennett on May 23, 2011 at 5:55pm: Thanks, Caterina! But I have to ask: do you see these as "asemic"? I don;t; they are all actual words in real languages.... (granted, one of them is Náhuatl, which is not widely understood outside México!)
