East of Minnie,

west of Moe;

catch a postman

by the Toe

“Mr. Postman,

If it’s okay,

before on this mail route

you sash-ay away…

“will you look

inside your tote

to see if there

might be a note

“addressed to me

upon a missive?

It’s prob’ly fancy

and likely derivative

“of the style of Monet

or possibly Manet

or looking Picasso-ish

from his great hey-day…

“For you see

I have many of these ‘friends’

who fancy themselves artists

to the very end…

“And they draw on their envelopes

…or paint …or collage

Sometimes they get torn during transit

Quel dommage!!

“The point is the envelope

will look rather cute.

Not so much is it ‘high art,’

though there are none can refute

“that more will it be welcomed

than junk mail or bills,

and that receiving such mailart

gives us sort of a thrill !

“And if you’d like to get some

yourself, Mr. Postman,

why just sign-up at I.U.O.M.A.

just as soon as you can!”

Poem in English and in French translation for a fellow French Mail Artist friend Valentine Mark Herman:

There was a mail artist of Sigean

Whose art was admired by pigeons.

When the artist said, “Shoo!”

The birds left him some goo,

But on his artwork it left just a smidgeon.

* * * * *

Il y avait un artiste postale de Sigean

À qui art été admiré par les pigeons.

Quand l’artiste a dit, Shoo !>>

Les oiseaux lui ont laissé un cadeau

Et la saleté semble un peu comme un papillon !

My contribution to the Mail Art call in tribute to Clemente PADIN.

With this excerpt from a poem by Paul Eluard  (French poet):

"It is in the name of my hope that I stand against the shadow."
