Hello, IUOMA folk. I have a long shot request. I am substitute teaching a K-5 art class in ten days, and then ten days after that, on the 28th of March and the 8th of April, and I am wondering if any of you would mind sending something that could excite children about mail art. I teach frequently, so even if a piece couldn't get here by then, I could show them to the next class. I've been sending mail art out for years, but not to other mail artists (so far), so I rarely get mail art back to show the kids! Just joined this  great network. If you send something, I'll send you something back!

I've been working with these kids for several years and are blown over by their beauty!

Thank you!

Thank you, Sue! It looks like it is going to be a blast-two more whole classes have signed up!

Hi Jinny,

You can add The Olathe Poste to your list of helpers. Will get some

things off to you soon. Best of luck in this project!

Bill

Thank you, Bill! Your site is on my handout, so it will be doubly nice for them to make the connection. I am just thrilled! The project looks to be really expanding thanks to this amazing community!

Thank you!

Jinny

Jinny, sending you a few Zentangle inspired mail art pieces. I thought those would appeal to kids.

Laura P, great idea! They will love that-I think that will make an excellent propt for those who don't quite know what to do! Thank you so much! Very kind of you!

Jinny

Will try to get something in the mail today.....

Great idea!

Mary

Thank you so much, Mary! We've got around sixty kids to be involved so far-it is all very, very exciting-I feel like a kid on Christmas Eve myself! There are so many teachable aspects in this-geography, penmanship, art art art, creative writing. . . on and on! Most of the children are in the first and second grades, though the classes I will be running in the after school program are k-5, mixed.

Again, thank you, Mary!

Jinny

You're very welcome.  I used to teach Arts and Crafts locally and know the wonder of being with kids who are exposed to the fun of making anything creative. Please have them send me an envelope too; I would love to see one.

Have a great time and let me know if I can send more envies for them.

Hugs,

Mary

yes! they are wonderful! A perfect foil to lonely artist life-sharing the love of the arts!

Thank you!

Jinny

I really think that children should say NO to drugs, violence, and mail art.  But if Mother Angie thinks it's OK, then it can't be all that bad.

I'll see what I can do.

Dean

Hi Jinny,

Received your "friendship" note. You're very welcome for the piece. I hope the kids enjoy it, too.

Have a wonderful day!

Bill

The Olathe Poste

Dean, Berkeley has a long history of questionable child rearing practices. There is a direct line from children wearing only smocks, no shoes and eating fruits and nuts exclusively to engaging kids in mail art.
