Top left: Zack, who noticed I'd favorited this in Photos and sent it on, lucky for me. I love its artful liveliness and sense of both celebration AND the relative chaos of life. Yet there is appealing space in it too. It turns out to be even more enjoyable in person.
Top right: from Jason Motsch, who wrote (to sum up) that he enjoys trying different things with art, and vispo, and has lately been "having fun ripping up paper and going wild with a palette knife." Much enthusiasm, and I love what he sent -- playful, yet really and seriously compelling too.
Bottom: Jon Foster, not that he belongs at the bottom of ANYthing (my scanner has major limitations). One of his wonderful and vibrant taped collages, the latest of a few I've been lucky to receive in 10 years at IUOMA. I have a deep love for Jon's taped LIFE collages and am grateful that he remembers this, whether consciously or sub-consciously. They offer a profound energy.
NOTE: I wish I had a better scanner, more talent at using it, and the energy+time to post everything received, because I believe everything deserves a blog or photo, and do appreciate every mail art that comes to me, whether or not it ends up posted in one of my occasional random blogs. For 4 years I blogged every single mail art, and then couldn't anymore, and remain in *awe* of people who manage to do this for much longer than I did, e.g., Katerina, Sabela, and a few others. Thank you again to all who do this!
If you're like me in that you can't do it regularly and wish you could, remember that each posting and sharing of mail art that you do, whether regularly or occasionally, counts -- and can affect, inspire, or otherwise have meaning to one or many persons. This keeps me going, whether working on art on my own or showing the work of others.
best to all from Nancy
Comment
Thanks for posting, Nancy! Also thank you for the comments about what I sent. I've only started doing artwork in the past six or seven years and it's almost always a surefire way to improve my mindset. I love it. Thanks again!
beyond the beautiful artwork you create and circulate, i so appreciate the sentiment of your NOTE.
when asked why i 'do' mail art, i often say 'especially in today's world, it's so affirming to receive hope, inspiration, and gratitude in the mailbox.' the blog posts are an extension of that, for sure, a ripple effect for the age of social media.
encouragement is contagious, no?
let's all continue meet up in the mailbox ]:-)
