Wreck this Journal (by US Postal Mail!) Project

Who wants to Wreck this Journal together?

I'm going to carefully take this book apart into all of it's individual pages.  I'll then mail sets of pages out to all participants.

Each mail artist will follow the art journaling instructions on their pages in a way that will still allow them to flatten and mail them back.

I'll post pictures and blogs on the main IUOMA page as each set of pages arrives back in the mail, with credit to all the artists, so that everyone can see what happens!

I will then sew or glue all the pages back together into book form between the original covers and post lots of pictures and video of the final product for everyone to enjoy.

TO PARTICIPATE:

A.) Message me via IUOMA with the US snail mail address I should send your pages to by December 26th, 2021. It's my birthday and the holiday mail should be settled down by then.

NOTE: We have 5 artists signed up so far but need a MINIMUM of 8 artists to do this project.  The more artists, the better!  If we only have 8 artists then each person will receive about 15 pages - if that sounds like too much just let me know when you sign up and I'll send you as few as you like.

B.) When you receive your pages, have fun with them!  If you love the results too much to part with the originals, you can opt to send back copies or email back scans of the pages.

C.) The return deadline will be January 26, 2022.  The pages which are mailed back will be sewn / glued back together and photos & videos of the completed book documented on IUOMA.

Excitedly hoping folks will join,

Minneapolis Gnome

I have handed the "Wreck This Journal (By US Postal Mail!)" project envelopes to the mail person, they're on their way to you now!  I'll be entering each update as a separate blog entry, so check my page for  when you'd like updates!

I've decided to wait until closer to the return date, January 26, 2022, to blog each participants pages as they land back in Minneapolis so that everyone is encouraged to engage their own favorite style without the influence of other artists work in their minds.

Thanks for doing this mail art project with us!

Thanks, Debra!  I'd love to add your pages to the project!  I messaged you back with mailing address!  Let me know if you'd like me to mail you some pages from this one as well!

I’d like to send you two pages I completed from this journal - I have a copy should you need some extra pages….???  I need your snail mail address, should you choose to accept them.  I just sent you a message about this.  Hope to hear from you one way or another, Debra

Hi MplsGnome,

Thank you for letting me part of this project! You can either e-mail me your pages or send them by postal service. I will travel this creative journey one way or the other. My e-mail address and whereabouts are on my page, thank you.

Hi Carien!

I'm so glad you wrote!

Would you like to join in electronically?  I could scan and send your pages to you through IUOMA which you would then get to you quickly (without waiting for them to travel across the seas).  Maybe you could print them and when you're finished, scan and send them back?  I could put printed out copies of your pages into the journal, and then we wouldn't have to worry about them getting lost or traveling too slowly.

Another idea would be for me to send some physical pages to you now, before 12/26/21, so that they'd have a couple extra weeks to travel.  You could then scan them when you finish and I could print them here in case the original paper versions get lost on the trip?

I love your art and it would be fantastic to have you be part of wrecking this journal!

Hi Kat!

Thank you!  I think the pond-crossing is too burdensome for sending a number of pages like this on a timed schedule too.  It's expensive and the traveling is slow, the way is treacherous and safe passage is not guaranteed.  Even inside the borders of the US Postal Service I don't have full faith and confidence in mail making it from point A to point B, which is a disappointment but given the political scheming that happened with our postal service in hopes of slowing down or preventing citizens  from mailing their ballots.......well...it sucks and our mail is still suffering for it.

I hope you're doing well!

Hi Richard!

Thank you for joining in the wrecking of the journal!  I'm am super plus excited about this project and think it's going to be FANTASTIC!

USPS is VERY. VERY. Slow.  I'll mail you your pages on 12/26/2021, which should then give you a few weeks to try to hope USPS will carry them back by 1/26/2022.

Huzzah!
