Unsung Heroes of the IUOMA

Here's a note to embarrass Mr Jon Foster. I enjoy every article of mail art I receive in the post, but have to say, Jon is prolific and consistently brilliant [certainly wouldn't say that about myself]. Anything received from Jon, makes that day an extra special day.*

Here's a recent piece Mr. Foster sent:

I've tried my hand at Jon's tape transfer technique and can just say that it must take a lot of practice to master. Jon is the King of tape transfer. Vivat Rex.

Who's your IUOMA unsung hero?

I can go back to my records (I keep really good ones for some reason) and look to see the first people that sent me things. Most of those people in that list are people that I sent to on a regular basis now. I'm thankful for those people and I cant wait to see where their work will end up going in the future. Here is the image from the first couple of pages of my first mail art records book.

I was first welcomed by both Val Herman and  Guido Vermeulen  . . . then Carmela Rizzuto, Jon Foster Dkult, Jay Block . . . and yes, D. Galloway sent me my first piece of mail art from an IUOMA member . . .

Do I have other unsung [mail art] heroes? Absolutely, all the above and many more who keep the correspondence going.

When I first started on IUOMA, I didn't really know what to do, just that I wanted to send and receive mailart. Not knowing how to go about it, I just looked at the main page for a while and studied it. The people I saw active there were the ones I first sent mail to. And they sent mailart back! Wow!

Katerina Nikoltsou, Stripygoose, Mailart Martha, Val Herman, Dean Marks, Phillip Lerche, Erni Bar, and Bruno Cassaglia were the artists I sent mailart to first. And they all responded! They all made me welcome, including Douglas Galloway who sent me my first IUOMA piece that came just days after I joined. Since then, there's been a lot of postage stuck, lots of photos posted, but these few are my first "unsung heroes".

Since that start, there are many, many daily heroes who make it fun to pick up the mail. Thank you to all of them. You are IUOMA.

OK I agree, they were clean.  But you must admit that the little bunny rabbits printed on them was kind of strange.

OH Jon is really the master of making everyday an extra special day.  Jon once sent me a pair of his underwear.  Our post lady still looks at me strangely.
