My friend Christie Green of Radicule asked me a couple of months ago if I wanted to do a show in September (the fifth) in her new gallery. I said sure not remembering that I'm not an artist (in any traditional sense), have nothing to tell people about the topic at hand and in general am totally at sea where things of practicality are concerned.

Subtext: So basically what I'm asking for is a sort of rescue mission so that I won't be sitting in a room with four white walls and a lot of egg on my face. The problem here is the the show is September 5th which doesn't give you much time. So I'll totally understand if you can't make the party but I have to ask anyway....

The concept: Memorials and Monuments to the people in positions of power that have chosen Mammon over Survival. See above collage for example.

The background: I have found it impossible to believe that people in positions of power are refusing to take steps to mitigate our pending extinction. I just can't wrap my head around the idea that we are playing political games about things which are not political but existential. Some of you may be familiar with my stuff surrounding this idea. If not, you can see some of it here

So the idea, the concept, is to remind these people, who are sitting on their hands or believe they will escape the consequences by virtue of their money or power, that they too are part of the human race and that their legacy will be one of everlasting shame (well, not exactly everlasting) if they continue to believe they are somehow above or outside the laws of nature.

Befuddled yet?

What you might could do: Pick a favorite naysayer about climate change and then push yourself into the not-too-distant future and design a memorial or monument that reflects on their legacy. I realize this is a rather odd mail art call...too late in arriving and somewhat complicated in structure but it is what it is...

Incentives to participate: We have a wonderful line of tote bags....no, actually we don't but I know because of who you are, selfless seekers of truth, that bribes and giveaways will not be necessary. The sheer backlog of your own ecological nightmares (and a chance to exorcise them) will provide fodder for your creations.

No limitations on materials or size. My only suggestion: mitigate your anger with humor (if possible).

Again, I apologize for my tardiness in getting this out. I'm hopeless.

David

P.S. For those hardy few who get involved I will document the show in some fashion (I'm not sure just how at this moment). Pieces will not be returned (unless you absolutely must have them for evidentiary purposes).
