Received from Nancy Bell Scott, USA--Brown Out in the Pine Tree State

Everyone knows I love maps--maybe it's because they're a 2D representation of a 3D place, maybe it's their subdued colors, but mostly it's because of what they symbolize--movement, the journey, the visuals of where we've come from, where we've been, where we have to go, where we want to go, where our lovers are, and maybe places to avoid no matter what. Nancy has given me a piece of Maine and Brunswick and I confess I've never been to either, but I love the map. I love reading the names of the rivers, the broken shores, the blue specs of lakes, the towns, and boundaries. The asemic writing Nancy has added makes a compelling contrast to the map and I find myself caught between looking and reading. I like the mica too, a keepsake of place. Thanks, Nancy. This is a terrific piece.

'Love the asemics across the map, Nancy. This is a beauty...everything about it!

If it were on a map of Greece, I would see seismic waves measuring earthquakes...but not ;-)

So cool! Charles Olson used maps of the New England coast, around Gloucester south of her, to define the shapes of some of the Maximus poems. A New England tradition? Maps + asemic writing = fantastic work, in the rights hands of course.

Many thanks to all, I'm very happy that you like this piece . And Bifidus, your post title is better than Maine ever gets in only national news. It takes the International UOMA! I love it, you gave me a big smile.

Oh, I adore this piece.  It takes me to a dim, dusty bookstore where everything smells old and musty and the maps sit rolled in tubes in a corner.  This is like a found object trove!
