Received from Lesley Magwood Fraser, South Africa--Asemics are Feathering their Nests

I never thought about feather patterns in terms of asemics, but I think it works. In fact, it opens up a whole new possibility for me: the asemics of nature. Animals have direct ways of communicating with each other, but do they also leave behind traces of communication that can pass for asemics? I may be reaching here. Lesley dipped feathers into paint and made impressions of them on this card. Because the paint is thick, I appreciate the haptic feel too. Nice piece all around. Thanks, Lesley!

The background looks asemic too, I didn't notice on the other picture I saw (forgot who's blog it was). Really nice!

The remnants of asemics left by nature - interesting concept.  Great work too Les.

Thanks for blogging Bifidus, and glad it has made you ponder a while! I printed a piece of an old Indian sari fabric with the red ink, the "asemic" red patterns are from the gold thread on the fabric which is raised, and it was only when I had done the print I thought they looked like asemic marks. I then printed the feathers with black ink over the red sari print. The reverse side of the card is another feather printed onto an orange print which I then cut out and stuck on. I hadn't thought about the haptic side of it! You are making me ponder now.....

I think you are right in saying that Lesley's "feathers" are asemic. Look behind the feather print and there are "asemic" markings, not too unlike the images in North Africa caves? I received "feathers", also, and find it utterly fantastic...haptic feelings! Beautiful art, Lesley! Thanks for blogging it, Bifidus.
