RECEIVED: ATCs, Asemics & "This Mouth Is Mine" Call from Marcela Peral (Rosario-Santa Fe, Argentina)

Mail-art by IUOMA member Marcela Peral (Santa Fe, Argentina)

April 8, 2011 - Marcela Peral is doing tremendous work with types of poetry that thrive in the mail-art network. Above are two asemic pieces she sent; the Braille piece is haptic and a concept pioneered by Bifidus Jones (Minnesota, USA). I like the fluidity of Marcela's asemic writing. I am especially attached to the work done on graph paper. The precise geometry of squares and rectangles provides a perfect foundation for oppositional interplay with the far more organic asemic shapes. The two mail-art pieces on the left are ATCs (Artist Trading Cards). As shown in work by Karen Champlin (Illinois, USA), ATCs can be an excellent format for asemics and visual poetry. Here are the reverse sides. I greatly appreciate Marcela's efforts to translate from Spanish into English:

Marcela Peral also included an add-and-pass piece, stamps and the description of a call she is leading related to artwork of hers that disappeared. She has been able to transform this sad incident into a statement of freedom and self-identity for mail-artists. Perhaps IUOMA friends would like to support her.

Marcela Peral's envelopes are great too:

And the address side:

Many thanks to Marcela Peral for this mail-art poetry! I look forward to exchanging more work in the future. Marcela has a great blog that showcases the Latin American side of mail-art:
