Portuguese Cowpokes & Other Possible Directions by Carina Granlund (Petsmo, Finland)

Mail-art by IUOMA member Carina Granlund (Petsmo, Finland)

August 23, 2014 - Fave correspondent Carina Granlund had a busy summer, including a trip to Portugal. She perused book markets in search of comics and other ephemera. In an absolutely stuffed mail-art package I received from her, she included this altered, pulp cowboy book she found that connects wonderfully with MinXus-Lynxus themes and symbols. I think I now have a Portuguese Mink Rancher.

I am, of course, used to USA pulp westerns and comics. Seeing a Portuguese version is fascinating.

Carina did very little to alter the physical structure of the book. Instead, she inserted numerous drawings and found items. These are fascinating, and I am only able to provide excerpts of all the interesting things she included.

I especially like the ATC-like asemics. Here is a close-up:

FAB visual-textual work!

I love the string in the opening scan, but here is a shot with the string removed:

Carina also included in the massive package some elegant collage from a series entitled “Possible Directions.”

Thanks, Carina. I'll keep passing (unaltered) material along to you maybe you can use. I have a ton of it. The comics can make great tape transfers as well.
