A CRAZY piece of mailart arrived in my mailbox just a few days ago. It was a page from a printed program of the Paris Olympics...and some other "hallmarks" about it give me a clue as to whom it might be from... and if so, it is no wonder that his mailart magic saw this piece delivered...BUT HOW???!!!
As soon as I lifted the mail piece from my mailbox, the afixed address label IMMEDIATELY FELL OFF! How it made it all the way through the system without falling off somewhere along the way, I will never know!
Also note the postage... Hmmmm. A large-size flat domestic article at the new rates activated in July *should* be around $1.50 (U.S. dollars). BUT THERE IS ONLY 6-CENTS WORTH OF POSTAGE ON THIS MAILED ARTICLE!!! GAH!!! HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE???!!
Well, perhaps, like the precarious address label, some of the postage fell off along the way?? ...Or perhaps this magician mailartist used his wiley tricks of persuasion on the postal counter employee, and convinced them to submit the mailed article at this cheap rate! (Though United States postal counter employees are notorious for their hard-line resistance to deceptive acts of persuasion!)
It is a mystery...but many of the feats of Monsieur Artist In Seine are a mystery. For instance—how is it that the In-Seine artist in question could be in the United States after having just attended certain Olympic events in Paris? Perhaps he became friends with gold-medal gymnast Simone Biles, and hid in her luggage when she returned home to the States?? Perhaps he decided to check the water in the River Seine before the Olympic trials began, and was accidentally rushed out by the river to the English Channel and across the Atlantic? Perhaps he didn't have enough money in his swimsuit to cover the cost of postage, and the post office counter employee took pity upon this exhausted, wet, and dripping person!!
I do not know! All I know is that this mystery piece of mail art arrived to tantalize my senses and make me gape in wonder at the mysteries of the postal system...or perhaps at the sorcery of the Artist In Seine!
Comment
yes it all adds up - nicely articulated ]:-)
Aha! The Artist in Seine strikes again :-) Seems the card paper was glossy and a few stamps may have fallen off along the way. Four (4) cards...large sizes of course, arrived in yesterday's first Greek mail delivery since ...June 15??? And ALL 4 are from the Artist in Seine:
3 are with French La Poste postage, but ONE is from the USA. Perhaps someone flew home to Minnesota for a family visit? a political rally with The Coach? an early voting day before Nov. 5th??? Ah the mystery !
Me thinks i shall be blogging soon all the mail art that finally arrived in Athens...
