A friend lives in Portland, OR and raves about Powell's. I like all independent bookstores from one-shop affairs like Left Bank Books, in St. Louis, Missouri or Quimby's Queer Shop in Chicago, Illinois to multi-location companies like Half-Price Books which started in Austin, Texas, but is now in several states.
