Designer Asemic Glasses & Much More by meeah williams (Brooklyn, New York, USA)

Mail-art (asemic eyeglasses) by IUOMA member meeah williams (Brooklyn, New York, USA)

June 2, 2014 -meeah williams sent me an extraordinary package with an asemic theme that includes designer asemic eyewear, two gorgeous vispo-asemic compositions and a boekie.

Either meeah is responding to the Google glasses craze (aka glassholes) or she did some research into the pre-MinXus Era. During the heyday of the Martha Stuart School of Asemic Wallpaper at the IUOMA (circa 2011) participants proposed all kinds of asemic consumer products. These included asemic wallpaper (of course), asemic gas, asemic furniture, asemic clothing and, yes, asemic goggles or glasses.  The chronicles of the Martha Stuart School of Asemic Wallpaper can be found here:

Few of these inventions were ever produced. A few that did had serious defects and were discontinued. For instance, I created asemic glasses for Diane Keys (Illinois, USA). Sadly, the experiment was a failure as you can see due to a bizarre chemical mishap:

In comparison, meeah williams’ efforts are a raging success:

I consider these asemic glasses a huge success and the realization of a dream from the heady days of the Martha Stuart School of Asemic Wallpaper. The missive I received from meeah also included these two incredible compositions on letter-size paper:

And the second:

FAB pieces! The asemic eyewear is certainly symbolic because everything meeah williams sent me is drenched in asemics. She also included this one-of-a-kind asemic boekie:

The envelope is also suitably asemic and gorgeous:

A total salute to meeah williams!

Ah the Dollar Store… We have Poundland in England!  I wish I'd been active on IUOMA then.  As for digging in files, that would be a good retirement activity. Not yet.

I appreciate you weighing in, Artist in Seine. From your perch, you are one of our most perceptive arbiters of mail-art fashion. In fact, I'm a fan of your designs - especially the ones displayed by that sensational Alsatian model in Australia.

Love those glasses.  Bravo

Rebecca, you hadn't arrived when the Martha Stuart School of Asemic Wallpaper was in session. My special project was the creation of asemic gas, which would have required gasmasks. If you didn't dig into the links (which I completely understand) my attempt to make asemic glasses for DK was a total disaster. Some sort of chemical reaction happened in the mail (I still think it was this weird Dollar Store glue I used) and this is what DK received:

Scary, no? I am in awe of meeah.

Yes, one of the many wonderful things about this work.

Thx Susan. I notice meeah's boekie has a red & black color scheme & thought of you.
