"Snakes & lizards" makes me think of "Snakes & ladders"! Hmm, inspiring... How good that they are  happy in South France.

Why a platypus... good question....
Anyhows, Platypus (pl.) seem to thrive well in A'veen, at least these six do. And the one in this marvellous book. I added the page, to add two green arrows which you have to follow in both directions at once, to find the Platypus:

Beautiful painting, isn't it? Made by Robert Campbell jnr (1944-1993). Sadly he passed away, a year after I bought this book. In this book three more beautiful - and politically aware, to my opinion - works of art by him. And works of many other great contemporary Aboriginal artists, among them my favourite works of aboriginal art, made by Lin Onus (1948-1996).

Concerning copyright, I hope Queensland University Press (who printed this softcover version in 1992) will forgive me. Why should they? Because I would and will recommend this book to everyone!!

Not only because of it's beautiful and various works of art shown, but also by the information about and the statements of the artists. Who or whose ancestors - and definitely their culture and identity - were suppressed until recently by law from people from the 'western' world.

Concerning some oher copyright matter. For all people who want to criticizes people who, for their own art, are inspired by indigenous art: the CoBrA artists were inspired by African art.
And this great Aboriginal painter Lin Onus (who inspired me!) has been inspired by a Japanese artist, you see when you watch this great painting. Beautiful, isn't it?
I love the combination of new and traditional, illustrative and photo-like art. And Onus' work (also published in the book) 'Waterlillies and fish' reminds me of M.C. Escher's fish in his 'Three worlds'. Don't know if Onus knew Escher's works, but if so, no need for criticism: the main thing is that both of them succeeded in bringing us a lot of joy and many 'wow' moments.

Thanks Heleen (and Makoto! Why on earth do you want a platypus? I don't think one would be very happy living in Amstelveen. I have some lizards (and snakes) in my Aboriginal-inspired art stuff, but no platypusses (platypi?). The snakes & lizards seem to get on OK in the South Of France.

Hey, watch that cat collage! Must be stealed from inspired by Makoto Muramatsu!..

(Nice drawings, Val! I just had a look at your website (looking for a platypus among your aboriginal art), and the Red Wandering Men are fascinating!)

Thanks Erni, thanks Edmund -- no offense meant, no offense taken.

A 'tiny little loan'? That's very kind of you, but no thanks.

A very large sum of money as a gift? YES PLEASE!

Are there Edmund Hippo "flats" in that green bag, Erni?

They are off in the mail on Monday! Yay!

Perhaps I was the artist, and, as usual, was just being modest in not promoting my work. (See www.val-herman-art.eu for details of my works)

Comment by Valentine Mark Herman on January 25, 2014 at 4:21am

Well, Erni, I might just have the original full-size painting, and soi don't want to reveal at this time who the artist was as you lot would make crazy comments about it that would not help when I sell it for several million$ at Christies next month.
