Yeah, the car....well, did the show make the car or did the car make the show?
I remember a couple of them...the one where Buzz becomes temporarily blind and has a brief affair with Barbara Barrie at a school for the blind. Her performance was quite moving. And the one where Sorrell Booke (Boss Hogg in later incarnation) is having a phone affair, pretending he looks like Brian Aherne, exposed by co-workers in a cruel prank...the things that stuck with me were the poignance...Silliphant was a good writer of human drama and the location shooting added a realism that shored up the sometimes improbable storylines.
You're inspiring me, not having seen it since its original days, to find some episodes. What a memory you have, that the show was that good. I loved it for all the reasons you mention, including that George's shirt came off often. One episode involved a scary, sort of blank-looking mask--don't remember the story but it packed a powerful punch. The mask is easy to conjure up mentally to this day.
Can do, Nancy....I watched a few of those awhile back. I'd forgotten that they filmed on location across the country. A cool concept and ahead of its time. In the early episodes it seems George was always taking his shirt off and fighting. Above average scripts, great character actors and exotic locales plus that wonderful Nelson Riddle theme....can't beat it.
How about one from Route 66 with George Maharis in it?
Thanks, Viz...I'll send you one from Vice Squad....
What a fabulous, serendipitous shot, David! Get back to the tv screen now to make more! Thanks for sharing, Carina.
You're welcome, Carina. For the curious (and aren't we all?) that's Janet Munro in the tub. Janet may be remember as Sean Connery's love interest in "Darby O'Gill and the Little People" which still has the scariest banshee ever committed to celluloid. I talk too damn much, don't I?
