Mail-art by IUOMA member Claudia McGill (Wyncote, Pennsylvania, USA)
May 17, 2013 - The mail-art (above) showcases Claudia McGill's abilities for textures and layering. You can see asemic flourishes done in a painterly way that incorporates recognizable elements found in much visual poetry. The contours and scratches on the surface of the piece, which cannot be captured in a scan, also add a haptic dimension. Claudia has eschewed in this work her usual collage themes. I think it is a beautiful piece.
Deepest thanks, Claudia, for this most wondrous art.

I am also thrilled to add this gorgeous collage by Claudia McGill to my archives. This is a gorgeous example of Claudia’s collage work that uses images of household items and furniture, a practice that has earned her a revered place in Trashpo. The abstract background, I believe, is particularly stunning.
Most of the work I receive from Claudia McGill is done on an oversize postcard format, at least twice the size of a regular postcard. She seems to be very good at assessing scale to give the work a maximum powerful impact.
As ever, thank you Miss Claudia!
And do not miss Claudia’s blog!

I was not serious about comparing your drinking & (non) smoking habits to Jackson Pollock (JaPo). And, ah, be careful about excessive speed when driving on those windy roads.
Oh & also with the top piece - Claudia told me it is a junk mail paint over. There is an image beneath of a house & car. Someone said they could read a license plate; I can't. The piece definitely has a layering dimension.
Claudia, maybe you're an action painter at heart (just don't throw your cigarette butts in the paint like Jackson Pollock.)
I am thrilled to have the top work especially because it's ALL background; no sharing with collage images. Your backgrounds are indeed spectacular & just as often subtle, IMHO.
Her paint techniques look effortless. the first one is beautiful=very balanced and soothing to look at. I particularly like when Claudia uses the squiggles to make the negative space that reveals the background.
DEFINITELY A FAN OF CLAUDIA!
