220 Never Say Wonderful Until... - for De Villo Sloan

Ain't Misbehaving is a movie from 1955. It's amazing how many American movies were aired in Japanese movie theaters at that time, if I believe the number of ads in those small Tokyo magazines from the 50's. Japan was still occupied by the United States in the early 50's and americans certainly brought in their own entertainment.

Bonjour!

I remember a song of this title from my High School rock 'n 'roll days.

'Ain't Misbehavin' was the title of a hit song (in the UK, so very, very probably a hit in the US too) by Johnny Ray in 1956 (no 17 in the charts), and, more successfully by Tommy Bruce (and the Bruisers)in 1960 (no 3). I don't know if the Ray version was tied into the film, or not. Here's the opening lyrics of the song:

"No one to talk with,
All by myself,
No one to walk with,
But I'm happy on the shelf
Ain't misbehavin',
I'm savin' my love for you"

Bill Haley did a version of it too, but that should be avoided.

It started out as a jazz song (written by Fats Waller in 1929) and later became a much covered jazz classic -- covered by Ella Fitzgerald (and its on the 'Ella and Bassies' album), Nat King Cole, Louis Armstrong, etc.

Hank Williams topped the US Country charts with it in 1986.

That's enough music: back to art.

Regards,

Val
