Birthday Art "Polka" from Nancy Bell Scott

I celebrated another year around the Sun recently, and mailart pal Nancy Bell Scott honored the occasion with a most magnificent example of her artistry... She had actually sent me a personal electronic message with the image first...so it was a total surprise to receive the ACTUAL ARTWORK in the mail THE VERY NEXT DAY!!

Above is the image…

Nancy Bell Scott is Keeper of the COB-tastic-ness

Some short time ago, Nancy Bell Scott posted her own picture of this lovely work she completed, and titled it "Finish Line." And I am the lucky recipient. But on the back of the piece she has written a new title: "The Road Between."

I'm not sure, but I think I like the latter title. "The Finish Line" seems so...final. Like we pushed…

Amazing Grace...These Mail Art Pieces were Once Lost, But Now They're Found

The thing about Mail Art is... that they often work REALLY well as bookmarks. Especially really magnificent and beautiful pieces of Mail Art that I wanna keep near me so that I remember to blog about them.

But the OTHER thing about using Mail Art as bookmarks...is that if you read as much as I do and have a gazillion books around that you're…

History Repeats Itself...Is There Anything Funnier Than a Duck on a Bicycle?

Boy, did I get  wonderful mailing from Melissa Wand.  I had sent her a Souvenir of the 2016 U.S. Election, and she sent me back this envelope with a couple of cute politically-themed postcards,a nice note, and several political cartoon clippings.

But I have to admit that the best part of Melissa's mailing was the envelope...because it IMMEDIATELY…

Heads Up! ...Or Heads In! ...A Blog Burst of Mail Art

So my home computer is still gasping its last few breaths, and I have ben WAY too busy at work to be able to get myself to the tech store to buy a new apparatus.  So I am staying late at the office in order to catch-up on posting some of the fab mail art I have received in the last month or so... (Apologies for posting things so tardily.)  This will be a sort of Blog Jam, therefore.  (I am starting to feel like a binge-blogger!)

I have also decided to enlist the help of an…

All Kinds of Anniversary Celebrations...

Some of the mail art I've received in recent months has celebrated the endurance of Mail Art through the postal system...

I have been remiss in acknowledging this WINNING piece of mail art from Ursula Rodgers... I've been keeping it on top of the 'received' pile because I've been enjoying it so much.  Ursula is a similar-souled artist--she's a charity knitter,…

WHY - from Nancy Bell Scott

I have received this wonderful piece by Nancy a few weeks back. Life hasn't been a long quiet river for her recently, and I know that this work was her first attempt at getting back to art, at finding her feet in the studio again, so I'm really touched and honored that she thought about me.

Nancy is making great use of what I call her "islands", and to me…

Swimming to the Sound of that Song - from Nancy Bell Scott

Nancy has been spoiling (in a good way) my mailbox quite a bit last week. First with this ink drawing on thick paper of my favorite swimming aquatic creatures :-)) People tend to see all kinds of things in those drawings of hers, including things that are not in the dictionary. I have always seen them as aquatic creatures, but all of a sudden it stroke me that…

Trash book without any trash - from Nancy Bell Scott

Trash books are undoubtedly the big thing right now. Nancy very kindly wanted to send me one, but she also knows that I am not that much into trashpo. What she managed to make here is a trash book that contains only treasures. I have to say, I was blown away by her work. Every page is absolutely exquisite. I can't even start listing all the textures, the…

Poems from the Past - from Nancy Bell Scott

Recently there have been several great blogs about mail art related to Memories and Memory. The piece that Nancy is sending me breathes the same air of Reminiscence. It comes with a wonderful letter, relating sweet childhood memories, freewheeling days at her grandparents' farmhouse. A child's universe, a lost world, but how come ever so present in the adults…

The Waterville knitting mill - from Nancy Bell Scott

When I saw Nancy's work featuring on several blogs I was hoping to receive something from her, and I didn't have to wait for a very long time, her first envelope arrived this week, lucky me.

Nancy dug up an old box full of of antique print blocks and stamps from her attic, check out her blog if you haven't seen it yet, it is very impressive. She started to use and…
