Winter creatures leaving South Africa ...from Cheryl Penn

Snootie-dark-guy in my olive tree today, as if we have to fear strange winter creatures crowding in on our HOT summer days STILL in Greece! An amazing print, on reserse side, too, only on transparent plastic:

Ya gotta love this guy...he looks all…

Fantastic Card from Atte Ourie in Finland

These shapes are all so perfectly drawn. I can't tell if the writing is meant to be asemic, or if it is in a different language but this mail art made me smile-==they didn't cancel the Finland stamp so I will attempt to send him mail reusing the stamp. It has worked before afterall postage is postage. Thanks… Continue

Dietary Habits of Richard Canard--Mail Art Philosopher and Comedien

The words are kind of small it says:

If you are serious about a career as an artist Don't try mail art. don't even send a postcard.

Sometimes I sned postcards to myself simply because I know that I'm likely to get a favorable response.

Whenever the source for collagable material plays out--I usually turn to the trash that comes from out of my…

Received from Arttower, Germany--True Snail Mail

Arttower dropped this piece in the mail a long time ago and we were beginning to wonder what happened to it--all kinds of possibilities exist, but I like Arttower's funny assumption best: the mail lady is mad at him and/or hates his guts. Since I have at last… Continue

Asemic Attitude Girl Glasses from De Villo Sloan--Resident Synthetic Bio-Po Manufacturer

Through a combination of Elmer's Glue and the heat, these actually came wet. The note was damp and bled, but I was able to surmise that it said… Continue

Helen Amyes and minimal abstraction

Or just "minimal," or just "abstraction": Helen said that she is studying abstraction, when she answered my (very) appreciative comments to her posting of photos showing her abstract explorations from the same series as above.  In my view this is "advanced" abstraction, meaning it looks to me as if it came from an artist who has been through many phases of abstraction.  In any…

"Firebird Suite" envelope painting by Guido Vermeulen

I think this is wild and wonderful:

Guido titles this "The Firebird" on the front, saying that it was "inspired by the music of Igor Stravinsky."  I can see that, and am extra delighted that this envelope painting is big: 9" x 12 1/8".  I appreciate all of Guido's work, and the size really doesn't matter to me, but he had to paint on a large envelope this time because…

More fun from Nadine Wendell-Mojica

Orrin & Sadie's 1963 Christmas card:

Sadie wrote a bit more of a greeting to the recipient on the back.

Nadine wrote to me on the back, "Was this the best picture Orrin & Sadie had for their card??"  I have to wonder that along with ya, Nadine.

As a fan of Nadine's funny envelopes and fantastic handwriting, I'm including both sides:…

Asemic, scientific, literary mail art from Svenja Wahl

Lovely asemic card from Katerina

Katerina's work is always graceful:

The scanner doesn't quite do the blues justice, but they're beautiful, as are the asemics. We are still hoping that an earlier one she sent with olive pits stuck on it will turn up! And because it is hard not to post envelopes and Katerina's is so pleasing, here it is:…

The Ghostwriter, Year 1500 - from Cheryl Penn

I think I got it now. One of the reasons why Cheryl is such an outstanding artist is because she is also a very good storyteller. Almost anything will sparkle her imagination, and her ability to create new stories knows no borders.

But just like her books are not "orthodox" books, her stories aren't either.
