Received: minimal art from prettylily

A cool piece, with a slight problem: The problem? The piece of screening had fallen off in the envelope, and Sue didn't remember where it goes. She had written on the back: "Simple enough yet? Ha, ha, still working on it." At first I took that to mean she is still working on going minimal, then, second-guessing, thought maybe she *meant* for me to finish it, with her "Ha, ha,… Continue

These sweet little children must have some costumes to attend the Halloween Ball.

Received from Dean Marks, France--Unofficial, Unlicensed, and Unauthorized

A gentle, kinder kind of anarchy. Katerina's partner in crime, Mark has sent me a couple of fantastic mail art pieces. This first one, in black and white, confesses that "He's got a Daytime Job He's doing alright." That's saying a lot these days. I like the doo-hinky buttons/keys and MR OFF is wonderful.…

Zombies Made It Rain by Andrea Jay

Andrea cracks me up. I can't believe I get her ongoing diary cartoon strip for free. I will never think about rain the same way again.

"Inspired by Life" card from Holly Cooper

That's what the cool stamp on Holly's card says. This is the fantastic story that went with the piece:

"One night I had a dream in which I made origami birds and flowers. When I awoke I waited a few days thinking the urge would pass. Then I bought paper and started watching origami videos on youtube."

Doesn't get more modern than that. learning an ancient craft…

Received from Susan McAllister

A wild and fun card that leaped out of my mailbox: A lot of work went into this interesting piece, and it brightens up the atmosphere in my dead resort town. She included a nice note on the back, too. Thanks very much, Susan ~

Cheryl Penn's Demons

Well, this is what I get for assuming that Cheryl had wrapped her Desk Set in a mere scrap of paper. I was filing away recent incoming when I unfolded this wonderful and huge drawing / mixed media painting featuring three of the demons that live in the watermarks in my ceiling. A sinister all-purpose trio and by the way, rendered with exactitude based on a few notes I scribbled to Cheryl. How does she do it? I suspect KwaZulu sorcery. Thank you, Cheryl and forgive me for my laxitude (is that…

Transgressing The Page / Bhubesi Women (II) - from Cheryl Penn

Transgress

1. To go beyond or over (a limit or boundary); exceed or overstep

2. To act in violation of (the law, for example)

As far as the page is concerned, I think that Cheryl is transgressing it with every piece of art she is sending out. Guilty as charged. Her books never look like any other books that ever…

Lesley Magwood Fraser breaks a heart

Theresa Williams and James Ensor

...on the way to the 1st Annual IUOMA Hallowe'en Ball: Very nice and graceful rendering of Ensor...covered with bats and hiding behind a nearly Pinocchio-type mask, poor guy. Theresa knows her subjects very well, though, and so she knows what she is doing here. Ensor would appreciate it, and I do too. Thank you so much for this, Theresa, and especially for the epistolary poem on… Continue

Received from arttower

A head! And great envelope, it had to be included: Thank you, Gunter, I enjoy your work and fanciful envelope--and am impressed that you knew my town can be officially abbreviated as OOB and recognized by the postal system. Nice going! He also includes a flier about "The Head Project Phase 3," which looks to have taken place on September 9. Congratulations, and thank you also for… Continue
