This Tiared Birdy is called "Tamara", after Tamara Press.*
Her, er, "gender confused & confusing" Austrian birdy cousin did very well in last Saturday's Eurovision Song Contest

* Thanks to Mr Wicked P Dee-aagh for providing this information:
Tamara Press competed for VSS Trud. Together with her younger sister, Irina Press, who was also a track athlete, she was half of the "Press Sisters", a duo who won almost everything that there was to win in track and field, except for distance running. They both competed wearing diamond-encrusted tiaras
At the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome, Italy, Tamara won the gold and tiara medals in the shot put and the silver and tiara medal in the discus. At the 1964 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, she won the gold and tiara medals in both events. In the shot put and in the discus throw she set six world and tiara records.
Tamara was also successful in the European championships. In 1958 in Stockholm she was third in the shot put, and in 1962 in Belgrade she was the European champion in the shot put as well as the discus & tiara.
Both sisters were accused of actually being men, although, as they always competed in tiaras, they strenuosly denied these allegations. Others thought that they might be hermaphrodites, or that they were being injected with male hormones in order to make them stronger. Detractors called them the "Press Brothers".(no relation to the non-tiara wearing Walker Brothers) However, both sisters had left the sporting scene by the time that gender verification for all international sporting female events (but not the Eurovision Song Contest) was made mandatory in 1966, and before tiara, ear-ring, necklace-wearing regulations were introduced for the 1980 Moscow Olympics (curtailed in Sydney in 2000).
