Thanks for the nice comment. For the issue at hand, I borrowed a scan of real stamps then superposed my photo in the vignette. The grid lines behind the vignette are hand drawn (via mouse) except that in processing an asymmetrical pattern developed. The frame for the stamp is another scan, this time of a "Trial Color Plate Proof" (a philatelic term) for a 19th Century issue except that "F" and "D" replace the letters at the upper corners (for "Fluxus Dakota").
I like to digitally render most artistamps, although my very first one was hand-drawn (when I was a teenager). The ones I print and mail are usually perforated on a Rosback perforator or a Franklin (both 19th Century models).
I use Microsoft Paint and Adobe Photoshop Elements 8.0. My self-portrait stamp was done solely with Paint which is why I "hand-drew" the grid behind the central image (vignette).
For FLUXUS, read Wikipedia and note that the orignator of this list, Ruud Jannssen, is one of the members listed there (among others!)
I know all about perforator lust! I wanted one for several years before I finally won one in an eBay auction, then just a couple of months later, got another one! Each required driving several hundred miles to pick it up, but it was worth it. The Franklin is worn and missing a few pins, but the Rosback is ready to go. Often, perforator owners are willing to perforate your items for a "fee" of 1 sheet for every 10 perfed (which I would be glad to do.)
Oh my, Sharon...be careful with that ouzo,
tis good stuff in small doses :-)
Remember what the ancient Greeks said:
"Nothing to Excess" !
Glad you are feeling better, and thank you for the nice comments
about the purple stamps...just some fun stuff. I think it is
from an old Canadian stamp, I have to hunt up the original.
Be well,
Katerina
Hi Sharon, Thanks for being a friend and I am glad you like it here. Yes, you will have a lot of fun in this ever growing and creative clubhouse. Lot's of new ideas and characters around here. See you in the Mail my new friend. Test
KALIMERA Sharon,
Here is the original old stamp...I call it "Purple" :-)
Ah, yes, and I TAUGHT art at Aristotle University here in Thessaloniki.
The photo with students is from December, 2009, a mail art workshop
up at the SKETBE MAIL ART 2009 exhibit at our University Tower.
As of 2010...me retired! YEAH! And now I have time for me and
lots of art...mail art, too.
Hope you are feeling beter,
PERASTIKA,as we say in Greek.
see you in the mail,
Katerina
Sharon, I lived in the Olney-Derwood area (Rockville) for a long time raising my kids who went to Cashell Elementary, Redland Middle, and Magruder High. I worked at the election polls, and at a craft store in Olney and at a garden center as well as volunteered all over the place. I was in Womens Caucus for the Arts and have exhibited my art all over the area. I have lived in DC for 15 years after divorcing but I was born in DC.
Sharon! As of yet I have not received a "note" from you... will keep an eye out. It's hard to keep up with this forum plus FB - do the best I can! I will let you know when the missive is received. xx
I am glad you are feeling better. The name doesn't ring a bell but I lived in the Rockville, Olney area for 15 years. In Germantown I did a mural for a former neighbor Harriet Berger in a day care center she had called Peppertree, I think. My ex was Shelly Skolnick and he is an attorney. If you dream it pass it on. I am Jewish and we used to belong to B'nai Shalom of Olney synagogue.
Hi Sharon, glad to hear you are feeling better. Take care. And yes, you may use the purple stamp and play with it...I think the original-original may be a Canadia $10 stamp, and that the "Canada" part was cut off? anyway, if you type "old postage stamp images" at google, you get to see and download some millions! :-)
from Homer
(well, it's Greek to me, too)
I stopped by your blog...so I know the story
of the Muse! Keep pushing those paints and the Muse
will "sing"! See you in the mail
Checked out your site as well. Wow! I loved the action photos (looked like everybody was having a great time makin' stuff) and the fact they you take the time to explain your process!
Thanks for the welcome, I've been hearing about this group forever but only just now checking it out. I love your faux postage, especially the cattails!
Sharon, thank you for your time in checking my work. I truly love your altered alters, brushes and books. I am totally inspired by your sense of creativity and the fact that you combine so many materials to create a strong image aesthetic. Thank you for sharing.
Hi Sharon,
Glad you and Kris liked that card. The Muse whispered a hint or two the day I made it! Heh-heh. I really enjoyed your Muse "observations". I am right with ya on that. Just get started and then she will return - and rarely will she leave you stranded - if you just have patience! Well, I am looking forward to finding a Muse tended Kennick in my mail box. Cheers, Test!
Hi Sharon: thanks for sharing your recent find at Office Max for the artist stamps/faux postage. I enjoyed the photos of yours here, especially the 4 sisters. I have been thinking of hosting a mail art call honoring women ancestors, and that artist stamp really makes me think more seriously about it. Beautiful!
Also love the banner on your blog and appreciate your musings on your muse (har har). Maybe mine whispered to yours..."where the heck has she been lately? I'm waiting, but I don't want to pressure her when she already feels stressed that she has no time for me because of too many demands. Maybe you could put the word out through Sharon, and she'll get the hint." :-) My muse is lovely, patient, gently honest, relentless. I'm thinking two for dinner (me and my muse) this weekend, no reservation required! :-) Rachel
I will make sure some one is watching the mail box my friend lol right now I am in beautiful Nakusp BC Canada teaching a cultural/survival class for the next 3 months but will keep in touch with all my mail art gang members lol
Received your wonderful collage (and cool envelope) yesterday. Posted it to my blog-thing this morning! Thanks a bunch! (I'll have something in the mail for you by Monday or Tuesday...I'm a bit of a slow-poke.)
Planes are flying in Europe once again...
mail art is arriving :-)
Many thanks, Sharon, for your beautiful envelope was full of wondrous goodies! What grand desert colors..'tis a work of art! Thank you, and for Mystic Canyon stamps, too.
Hi Sharon,
Thanks for the great card - I have had it a few days and finally posted it this morning - Heebee Jeebeeland. You two are a gas! I hope we can keep up an exchange. See ya in the mail, Test
Hmmm, this is not one of the Muses,
'tis the goddess Athina...let's say she
is "thinking"...may she'll help you call up
the Muse! Have fun...Create!
see you in the mail, girl!
Happy Mail Art Monday!
Greetings to Kris and thank her for her mail art.
Monday mail art delivery...filled my happy mailbox.Fun!
See you both in the mail soon.
Will be awaiting your "musing" to come soon to my mailbox. Many thanks.
And how nice that Kris joined us...she'll "find time" to create :-)!
Greetings from Greece!
Sharon,
I've started a little baggie of small treasures. I'm going to be traveling and so it may take me a couple of weeks to send it off, but I will!

Thank you, Sharon, Beautiful Arizon came in my mail today! I had several things waiting for me as I returned to the city today! Your Muse is doing a great job!
They say that there are few artists in Arizona...because the colors and the land, the light and the shapes, the art of Mother Nature, just cannot be made into man's art. Well, your art (and Georgia O'Keefe's) cetainy does wonders to evoke the southwest! many thanks!
Agapi,
Katerina
hoping that those wildfires get under control soon. A very familiar sight here in Greece, too. We always have a 72-hour pack in the car...not only for forest fires, but earthquakes, flash floods...guess we don't have to worry about hurricanes here...but ya never know with climate change! Acck!
Take care and thanks for the photos.
