Why I am involved in Mail-Art:
I have always loved exchanging art with other artists in my own country and around the world because it makes it possible for us to share our creations without having to do it through the gallery system. It stimulates self-expression and creates community while giving us all a way to get our art into the world.

    Dear Carla

Thanks a lot for your contribution to "Alyonka-Sputnik" collection and the artist's traing card! I received them last Wednesday, the day of our come back from Italy. You can see your envelope and your post card among the sendings of other mail artists. Soon I'll post them on the blog of "Alyonka" project.

Wait for my letter and ATC!

    Hi Carla,

Hmmmm. Hummmmm can certainly be a problem as it is very disturbing when listening to the voice. It is best to try to find out where it is coming from and eliminate it rather than record with it then try and remove it.
When recording poetry I have two hints, rehearse the reading well before going to recording and listen carefully to what has been recorded several times to make sure the sound/reading is what you want people to hear. You would be surprised at how many recordings I receive which are so bad I am unable to restore them and I am an expert in sound restoration.
Of the 49 CDs VEC audio has published about half are spoken word/audio drama/sound poetry. All my poetry is written to be spoken. Poets were speaking their poetry for thousands of years before the development of paper! At your request I will send you a CD or two of some VEC words.
Were you aware that the Mail-art Dada Skank song on my page has a link to the original recording? It's in red at the top of the song.
    Thanks for your contact.
    Best greetings

    rod

Thank You, Carla for kind words about my Hesse artistamp

Carla that sounds good. Your reading is perfect. I suspect that if you hadn't been busy removing the hum there would have been more cream in your voice, a meatier sound, but the clarity of sound has a character most acceptable. One of the horror trips for me at the moment is that often people are listening on laptop computer loudspeakers or cheap little headsets, but in this case the sound you have produced is probably perfect and will survive such treatment! I have my computer connected to a Denon amp running Auratone monitors (I think Auratone is made in your neck of the woods) It's late and I didn't dare give your poem a loud test but I will tomorrow.
I dropped some CDs in the post for you today, please let me know when they arrive.
I'll come back when I've had another listen.
  • Rod Summers / VEC

I played the poem again today only this time I gave it some welly (English expression for bloody loud) and the sound is good, however I do miss a little of the warmth of lower frequencies. Considering your success you should get the sound system sorted out and record more... I sense a CD in the offing.

Hello Carla, I Thought that I had already told you as much as I have liked your sheets, they arrived to month principle. Do I believe that I left you a note in some blog..? I am not sure...
I adore your stamps, I like the xylography and that Hispanic or Mexican air that you gave him... Thank you thank you for your stupendous and erotic sheets
¡¡¡ you make great stamps. !!!
  • Rod Summers / VEC

Yes. Your music is good and the person who made the comment that you could do better with better recording equipment was correct. You obviously have the touch and you sure as mushrooms are fungus have the voice. I'm impressed Carla. Go forward.

    Hello Carla!

    Hi Carla,
I'm glad my envelope arrived at your place and you liked it. (I was a bit worried because they took quite a long time, and I thought it might have something to do with the ancient stamps I used; I even got an envelope returned to my house without any obvious reason).
As you say, both lino and eraser cutting have their (dis)advantages. I like the erasers for the small stuff.
Thanks for the link to your songs. At the moment of writing I listen to your singing the Valentine song. Your really a multitalented person :-)
    Regards, greetings, Jan-Willem

I just wanted to tell you those block prints you posted are beautiful. I loved 'em.
  • Rod Summers / VEC

I have a load of friends up there, and have visited the country 17 times, if i get the money together i intend to buy a small house there and spend more time there in the land of Ice and fire. If you look at my videos on Youtube (search vecdor) you will see that i also make art there! best of all I have friends who have a sheep farm in the most remote area of Iceland so I get fantastic isolation and solitude each year.... good for the soul! Iceland is a paradise for bird watchers and geologists and the Vikings are the coolest race i know. I'll leave some space in my backpack for you to ride along with me OK? Photo is from my bedroom on the sheep farm. best greets

You are welcome, but please don't wriggle the back-pack is heavy and awkward enough as it is! I was considering a blog but where I will be there are no telephones or Internet cafes. The photo is by Karli of me with Maggers (Magnús Pálsson) on a bright May day two years ago.
Of course I will take the cameras with me so sing sweetly for me Carla and I'll send you a CD when back here.

    Hi Carla,
this side is working well. I wanted to see pictures from "Day of Dead" but now I read that the administrator had canceld something. Sorry for my english. Have a nice day - Wolfgang.
  • Rod Summers / VEC

I think the poem is very good.
    Mood above perfection every time.
I would have knocked a few db off the music or perhaps added a gentle echo to it, the reading is A1 fine, any slower and it could have become tacky, right now it is true.. The purpose is correct.
Thanks for the link, you're doing real good Carla. Touch my soul again any time you want.
  • Rod Summers / VEC

Good. Don't fret about those who drop off.
  • Xtina Solano

thanks so much for coming last night, your support meant the world to me, you are a special special wonderful-filled human being, and i feel so lucky to have you in my life...and please thank the teddy graham for bringing you down from the north side =0)

Carla that is really very good, I have downloaded it.
I'm still mulling over the 'half-blood'reason for hatred! How bloody sad.
Last night I watched a documentary on the Beatles and saw Americans burning their albums when John mentioned that the Beatles were more popular than Jesus. Spare us!
I can't listen to the Beatles since John was shot to death, So sad for all that we have lost.
I watched the several hours of documentary and went to bed with very mixed up feelings, glad to have lived through those times, sad that they slipped by.
