    Thanks Michael,

New to all this, but looking forward to getting stuck in.

    Hi everyone

As some of you are aware, I started a YouTube channel a few weeks ago, where (among other things) I'll be making monthly videos to showcase the mailart I receive. (The first one can be seen here http://youtu.be/kh3Bcm9xWRI)

I'd like to create a special one-off video around my birthday (14th April) full of 'Unusual' Mailart. I'm thinking the type of stuff you see on the 'Extremem mailart' group (plastic toys, bits of wood, found objects etc), but the interpretation is up to you. If you don't feel confident posting your art 'naked', I'm happy to receive things in packages, but naked would be good ;)

I'll still be doing a monthly video as usual, for all the postcards, boekies etc, but anything that I (or you) think is particularly unusual or extreme will go into this extra special video. My hope is that I can spread the word of the network, mailart in general, and of course show off your amazing efforts to the world while entertaining my subscribers :)

If you'd like to take part, please send your unusual pieces to:

    Sarah Churchill
    23 Laura Street
    Pontypridd, R.C.T
    South Wales
    CF37 1NW
    United Kingdom

REMEMBER I will be making the video on/around the 14th April, so post at the end of March to be sure of reaching me in time.

    Thanks in advance! :)

If any of you are in London or thereabouts you are very welcome to join us. Please bring a few postcards and materials to make communal mail art. Some project invitations will be handy too.

Quick mention of a mailart meet-up at the British Postal Museum Archive London WC1 - mailart Martha & John, Andy & Elena Hoang and me. We went to a talk on the history of the Christmas card from the 1800s to the present - and beyond? Highlights for me were the cards of a row of anthropomorphised sheep and another with a group of frogs and toads playing musical instruments. Worth checking out the bpma website as they have lots of on-line exhibs etc too.
  • stripygoose

    PS welcome back Rose!
  • Michael Leigh

Thanks Stripygoose  for the BPM  info.  I went there once  back in the 80's with Hazel . One of our first dates!  They didnt have much of interest then so glad to hear it's changed ( if its the same place? )  They were very officious too and told us off for taking photos. So never went back.

  • stripygoose

Michael it's not like that at all now, though I suspect there are some dare I say geeky postal types there. Everyone was very friendly, interested in mailart and they had organised an interactive postcard project, giving out pre-stamped postcards for free! Worth keeping an eye on their website.
  • Alan Brignull

Yes, I went to a very interesting talk there about Reginald Bray. I wish it was closer to home. They have big plans for the future.

    peoplespost@postalheritage.org.uk

I don't know what their plan is, but thought I'd let you know antway!

  • stripygoose

Anyone thinking of going, by any chance?

  • Mail Art Martha

    I shall try

  • Michael Leigh

Just a bit too far for us in Cheshire sadly.

  • Michael Leigh

Hi Babs, welcome to the group. I must admit I havent bought any "novelty" postage stamps recently but they were available in books of 12 - not sure if they still are.  In the USA they are fond of novelty stamps - Ive seen them with The Simpsons, Mickey Mouse and other light hearted images on regular postage stamps over the years.

  • Jade H

Hi I am new here, I am looking for some people to trade art with in the UK

  • Michael Leigh

Welcome Jade. I'm sure there's plenty of contacts in the UK for you here. 54 at latest count!    Good luck!

  • stripygoose

Jade - some people ask first, but others just mooch around other people's pages and if the address is there, jump right in :>)

  • Jessica

Just wanted to say hello & that I'm thrilled to be here.
  • Michael Leigh

Thrilled you are here Jessica!   Hello and welcome.

the poll is today. Is it Brexit of Brexitno?

  • Michael Leigh

This whole referendum thing is a farce - nobody wanted it except a few moronic racists who somehow managed to get themselves one MP and scared the weak and woeful Tory government Thanks to all the right wind press peddling their lies it will be a close run thing.  Fingers crossed it will all turn out fine or I'm afraid I shall have to throw all you pesky Europeans out of the UK Mail Art group ( ha ha!).

  • stripygoose

    I'm voting for mailart.

There is a petition on line. Not entirely a joke it could happen

    https://www.change.org/p/sadiq-khan-declare-london-independent-from...

  • Michael Leigh

Not entirely?   I fear we are just clutching at straws!  These are sad times for the UK soon to be not united anymore. Still, mail art goes on and freedom of expression on the internet is still here ( for the time being!).
