Smiles & Smirks

Art with a measure of humour is required by Walmarth Corporation for its chain of supermarkets, located in the Queendom of Retailia and in Cascadia Artpost. Through this collaboration Cascadia Artpost and Mail Art Martha are continuing to give impulse to Trashpo, the artistic vision of Diane Keys.

‘Walmarth Corporation is an entertaining and witty parody of corporate, consumer culture. Cascadia Artpost’s painstaking realization of Mail Art Martha’s ideas through detailed, special effects style models makes Walmarth Corporation one of the crowning achievements of Trashpo in the half-decade that it has been producing a large quantity of art.’

In addition to Trashpo the Corporation has now expanded to include political satire, parody, comics, caricature and witty playfulness.
Your contribution is needed to fill the shelves.

I meant Leslie Phillips. I said I am rubbish, din'I?

and yes the other is Sir James. I think the prize should go to Alan!

  • Mail Art Martha

This is a tiny card from Theo Nelson that was sent to me by Carol Stetser.   Perhaps Bertie Wooster's Aunt Agatha, the one that killed rats with her teeth?

  • Michael Leigh

Actually the "Ding Dong" chap is Terry Thomas although Leslie Philips might have ripped him off in a film once. Sid James with a pipe from some film - probably "Carry ON Up The Walmarth"!

  • Mail Art Martha

Well well well, fancy that! I was right after all on the Terry Thomas thing. Pure fluke.

    Boa noite Martha.

    Ainda bem que gostou.

    Obrigada. Sucesso

That is what I am doing every day. Haven't got inside the bottle yet; it is the bottle that gets inside me! Great drawing, thank you, Sabela.

And thank you also, Katerina. By her expression it seems that your masked lady is having fun too, while taking heed of good advice.

  • Mail Art Martha

This had me laughing for a while!

Hide's sense of humour made her convert to a funny face the stamps on the card she sent me with only one crafty well placed line. And the US post office added wavy hair to it.

08.06.20 Dare Ms. Mail Art Martha  & Ms. Heide Monster, ....yes, a fine example.    ...alas, something fitting  to be labeled as "Mail Art".  Thanx for sharing. SinCelery,Richard Canard

Richard, Walmarth welcomes you into its clutch, and hopes that you take advantage of the many upcoming dumpster specials this summer. Also, remember if you visit Cascadia, that Walmarth Cascadia also has Trashpomobiles for your transportation needs.

The Diorama Diaries first issue dedicated to the inauguration of the new Post Office in Cascadia landed on my desk. Although no laughing matter I  think it deserves exposure here so I put together a taster.

Let's give Jack a collective virtual round of aplause!

  • Jenn Miltenberger

I'm in love with the new Cascadia post office.

  • Michael Leigh

Mr. Melk adverts from Norway. Just saying.   Lovely Diorama Dairies - I wonder if they sell Mr. Melk juice?

Your collaged poem is great, Michael, and then, to complete the fun, this landed on the shores of Retailia from Adanaland:

  • Mail Art Martha

On the back of an envelope. Surely this counts as a smirk.

  • Fleur Helsingor

I went to my post office to pick up my mail on Friday, August 21st, and received some smiles. Here's the August 10th smile from Walmarth, and that big cat is ready for a delicious meal!

It came wrapped in one of her folded envelopes with a newsletter on the inside. I'm including the folded envelope in this scan because the artistamps are so cool, too!

Thanks Fleur and michael for making me smile needed it!. i cannot write I sprained my right wrist. In areally stupid/funny way. details later.

  • Michael Leigh

O dear - hope your wrist is better soon Martha!

  • Ilya Semenenko-Basin

Please tell me if I can be of use to Walmarth Corporation.
    Can I contribute?

  • Mail Art Martha

    Michael and Ilya!

Thanks Michael. Better now I mean the wrist. My ego is ailing, it took the worse tumble. i feel so stupid. I had reached the landing and put my foot on the next step, which, of course, was not there. And fell sideways. Rather funny isn't it?

Of course Ilya, anything you think is somewhat funny but do not injury yourself!

  • Michael Leigh

  • Michael Leigh

Glad to wrist is better Martha.  Yes, so easy to fall over especially as you get older.  I slipped on the ice a few winters back and kicked a nearby concrete bollard. My big toe went black and was very painful. Ouch!  So hopefully no ice this Winter!  Only in my rum and coke!

  • Fleur Helsingor

Take care, everyone! In the meantime, let the fun continue.

Right now, I'm working on a very silly set of mail art cards. As soon as I've finished them, I'll post a couple.

  • Fleur Helsingor

I've finished the very silly set of mail art cards. There are six cards in all, and I've chosen these two to post here.

  • Mail Art Martha

Oh Fleur Silly cards? I like them. Mine are always silly. Sometimes I think I will be chucked out of the universe due to my lack of seriousness. That must be why I formed this group, sillyness is not only welcomed but a requirement.

  • Mail Art Martha

Michael! honestly! Do not mention the o word here! Falling in my case is genetic. As a child my knees were always painted in lovely tones of black blue and purple with an occational touch of yellow, like a weird sunset. I am sure that contributed to my love of colour.

  • Fleur Helsingor

I'm glad that you like my silly little cards, Martha. I'll be putting one of them in the mail to you tomorrow!

  • Mail Art Martha

I received this surprising card. Autograghed too.
Apparently somebody told Boris I admire him !?!

  • Mail Art Martha

While you are in the store getting your Voodoo Doll don't forget to pick up your free Coffee Clutch.

  • Katerina Nikoltsou (MomKat)

...And the recent Double Coffee Clutch is such fun! :-)

  • Mail Art Martha

Ann Golden forwarded to me an ATC made by Boozy Barb with the request to be added to the stock of Walmarth. And here it is

  • Michael Leigh

Blimey!  A bumper load of new stock!  Excellent stuff!

  • Mail Art Martha

Cor blimey indeed! Fantastic, who is the artist?

Cascadia Coffe clutch - Double clutch

The public service aspect to Cascadia's mail art should be highlighted. Coffee Clutch is chockablock with important information, words of wisdom from pioneers and paragons of the mail art network, funny, and full of details to keep your mind active.

During the Covid pandemic, this is even more essential than normal. After reading the first side of Cascadia's four pages of his 'double clutch' I have identified a must contribute to mailart call, felt 'in-the-know' because i could answer some of the trivia questions and been entertained by the advertisements.

By the end I have learned about another mail artist I didn't really know about, cracked a smile about forever stamps, enjoyed the conflation of kombucha and kimchi, tested my skill on a tricky crossword, and wondered about a voodoo doll.

Enjoy the edition!  I certainly did!

  • Amanda

The Voodoo dolls are brilliant and made me really laugh when I saw this post.
