I have another question which has arisen as I build my website. Under EXHIBITIONS that I have participated in I have included all the Mail Art callouts I've sent work to along with other gallery shows where I've shown my work (solo and group shows). Artist friends of mine don't think Mail Art callouts are as legitimate bc they are open to everyone and anyone, including non-artists (whatever than means), and are not juried. They don't think I should include them as part of my professional practice. What do others think?

Thanks CtlAltDel.

I'm going to post your two questions that you sent, here for other people to answer.

- why is collage the dominant medium in Mail Art?

- what is the boundary (if any) between collage/Mail Art and scrapbooking?

Guessing it has to do with the availability of extra scrap paper from newspapers, books, and magazines which are everywhere.

I really don't know much about scrapbooking, other than the fact that I would see aisles at the big box craft stores full of stickers and paper sculptures for documenting memorable events.

It is a very special hat ;)

This will be fun to play with once it arrives. Thank you Adam R.

I'm making a funny, distorted face, so no, I do not look like this all the time. The hat is only for special occasions.

I recently tried to cut stamps myself out of erasers. Here are two results:

Thanks for the notes on your rubber stamp mail art practice, Joey. I will include them. Of course, feel free to send any images to go along with what you wrote below. AND thank you for your feedback! It keeps me going.

Love positive feedback, If you ever have any negative ( and constructive) feedback you can send that too.

I use rubber stamps on my mail art envelopes - usually on the backside, the front is graphic for ROBOT MAILART COW, address and postage. I also got my portrait rubber stamp from Adam Rossoupoulos and haved been using it frequently.

really like what you're doing with your publication, Mail Art News. thanks

Mail Art News members, do you have any of the following?

  • rubber stamp madness (not the magazine)
  • rubber stamp addiction
  • a love for rubber stamps?

Do you use your rubber stamps in your mail art? If so, Mail Art News wants to hear from you. Please send me a paragraph or two or ten, answering the following questions:

  • How you got into rubber stamping?
  • How many stamps do you have in your collection?
  • Why do you like rubber stamps so much?
  • How do you use them in your mail art?
  • Include between one and four photos of your rubber stamped mail art / your collection (suggested)...if you send ten images, that's ok too.

You can also send answers to questions I didn't ask above. Suggestions for the blog post title are also appreciated.

I am going to combine all the answers into a blog post by the end of May / start of June 2023. You can email your answers and images to mailartnews@gmail.com. I look forward to hearing from you.
