“IS CONTEMPORARY ART A PRISON?”
Double International Collective Exhibition
curated by Sandro Bongiani Shared event at the galleries:

For this new international project we have taken up the work carried out in a seminar organized by Luigi Russo in 1982 in Palermo, of a deliberately provocative "sociological" investigation. From the seminar the contributions of Mario Perniola, Ermanno Migliorini, Enrico Crispolti and the philosopher Jean Baudrillard in which they all agreed in the belief that art can also be a prison. For the occasion, the philosopher Mario Perniola wrote "art is a prison, because artists are jailers; they keep creativity imprisoned, which could be manifested in society with a wealth of forms and expressions". The prison for the false avant-gardes is society, its abstract planned order”.
Why this premise and therefore this new project after the one activated in 1976 by the Argentine artist Horacio Zabala, because we believe that the situation after more than 40 years has worsened profoundly. Today, the art proposed by the official and global cultural system is specifically planned according to an economic return for both the gallery owner and the artist and also by the curator on duty who prefers to be useful to the system by accepting the role of subordinate condition. In fact, "official" art adapts to pre-packaged commercial tactics and fashions by producing often sloppy objects that enslaved critics try in every way to validate, giving reasons of various kinds to justify the qualities that sometimes in the works there is not. All of this will be punctually highlighted in September in the presentation of this double international exhibition in which we ask the artists for a convinced participation. Sandro Bongiani
For this reason we inform you that we are preparing a double international collective exhibition for September 2023 by title: "IS CONTEMPORARY ART A PRISON?", If you wish to participate in this event, please give us confirmation by e-mail to: bongianimuseum@ gmail. com
For this invitation, a card is attached with a photo of a prison in which to participate freely and to be sent by post only by the deadline.
For safety, to prevent the images sent by mail from being lost, it is preferable that they are sent in JPG file format) to: bongianimuseum@gmail.com
Send the works by post, possibly made in vertical format such as the attached card or in max A4 format (cm. 29.7×21), clearly indicating on the back of each work the name of the author, the format, the year of execution, the city, the country of origin of the work and the respective personal e-mail address to:
Giovanni Bonanno / Bongiani Art Museum
Via S. Calenda, 105/D 84126 SALERNO (Italy).
(deadline for receipt of works: 30 June 2023)
All works arriving by post will not be returned, they will be permanently archived in room 18 of the Bongiani Art Museum Collection and will be permanently part of the Bongiani Collection in Salerno for any other events to be held. In September 2023 all the works arriving by 30 June 2023 will be officially presented in a double international collective exhibition shared at the Sandro Bongiani Vrspace Gallery and the Ophen Virtual Art Gallery in Salerno (Italy). Furthermore, after the exhibition a digital catalog will be published on ISSUU edited by Sandro Bongiani Arte Contemporanea with all the works present in the exhibition.
It should be noted that the works arriving after 30 June 2022 will not be able to be present in the two exhibitions for obvious reasons of time but will in any case be archived and placed in room 18 of the Bongiani Art Museum to document the participation in this international project.
For further information, you can call me on my mobile number: 3937380225. I hope to receive the works by 30 June so that I can better prepare the shared and interactive exhibition in two galleries for the first days of September 2023.
