FORMAT FOR ASEMICS 16 # 4

For the 4th Asemic collaboration we would like to create almost a pocket book -  a long thinner format.  This sizing takes into account American paper sizes as well as standard European envelopes (ones we have received in any event!).  We do not wish to be prescriptive BUT it would be good if one (or two) alternate surface was used in the formulation of this work. So for example - one sheet paper (thicker - 160grm) and/or - acetate/carton-cardbord (recycling)/transparencies/ plastic/any ALTERNATE surface. USE YOUR IMAGINATION!!! Obviously the subject is still asemics in all its various manifestations. Although you may want to start working on this project ( I know I am!!) please do NOT post until the list is finalized. This will prevent posting to participants who withdraw and all the inherent ADMIN!!! ANY problems - ask :-)!

To those of you involved - we're excited by this - hope you are to!!! X

Two sheets once more, but a different format.

Cheryl, I'll convert to inches momentarily - thought we were going to have a conversion policy or something.
Hi Theresa, I'll double-check the conversion to inches. Sorry, I forgot the format changed for edition #4, not the same as 1-3. Cheryl corrected this earlier. Each book will have 16 contributors - so you'll mail to the 15 others. #4 is not complete yet in terms of contributors. Each contributor chooses how they want to bind it, so don't bind any chapters you send. There will also be a written introduction. Cheryl and I are talking about doing some additional review copies. Project 26 - very similar to this - has already appeared in several exhibitions. Alfonso very kindly did a nice display in Rome.

Theresa, I'll trust you are right on the measurements. We had a go-around with conversion the first time.

As for individualized pages - Book Arts people pride themselves by doing each page by hand and making it unique, so no two chapters are the same. Others, probably the majority, just do a master sheet and make 15 copies. That's up to the artist. Some find a middle ground where they do, for instance, some asemic writing by hand on each copy. Again, it's a mix. Your choice.

A converter is great T2xAW - the first time you do a collaborative book can be confusing. It's simple once you get the hang of it.
Theresa, Glad you are asking the questions because I have never done a book project like this either. De Villo  thanks for the answers and if I am following things correctly you and Cheryl will be providing more info on the format for book #4. Thanks to both of you.

Hello Laura, Theresa, DVS :-) -DVS seems to have answered all the questions? - Yes, 15 copies need to be posted - one to each participant.  Format - is this still unclear for anyone? A long portrait format - 3 1/2 x 8 1/2 (thanks Theresa) or 9cm 21.5cm.  This is the folded size obviously - as per the pic, the

18cm folded = 9cm =   3 1/2 in. Binding occurs along the 8.5inch side and you do NOT bind it prior to sending.bInstructions for binding will be blogged at the end of the project.  The more handwork the better for me!!! AND remember alternate surface use - thanks - as DVS says - any more questions, just ask :-) X

Hi, Laura. Feel free to ask questions. That's why streams are here. The first time I did one of these books - I must have been the worst one of all in terms of trying to understand it. Cheryl is best at format and procedure - she developed this concept that goes back to Ray Johnson. I always marvel at that. She comes on in a few hours, usually. Right - Edition #4 is still being organized. No fears - the last three went smoothly. Thanks for your involvement.
Thanks, looking forward to the project.
ROB is joining us - whoop! :-) X
So we have 13 for Edition #4 so far?
Yes DVS - 3 more LUCKY participants and we're a Go :-) X
Yes, we're using numerology - very important they all be 16.
