Joerg Schroepfer Tuschezeichnung - S1

Far on the mountain, in silence, surrounded by the water loudly

Through light and shadow, lead the paths to walk, the paths of understanding, the paths of curiosity, are the paths where reasoning arises.

Faces of mountains, Stories of the water, Faces of the sun - the light – the condition that makes us distinguish between bright and dark, we can see a picture and in the first place after all.

Rooted and engraved by the "artless art" of Zen ink painting, are my drawings naturally European.
Self-taught, I paint in free spirit almost playfully naive.
Often for weeks, months, I dream myself deeply into the mental images,
and in seconds - the moment - in sorrow or joy, with warmth, but mostly inside a cold room, calm but with trembling hand.
Paths on paper

Let's have another flashback. This series was one of the first in the history of this social art project.
And as always, there is a story behind the story. When Schröpfer came up with the idea of creating a series for the ARTSURPRISE project, he was initially hesitant. The artist normally creates large sculptures from Thuringian half-timbered beams that are often more than 500 years old. What can you do when you have a whole 60 cubic centimeters in an ARTSURPRISE box? At that time, the artist began to create small ink drawings in his apartment every winter when heating the large studio with wood was too laborious. ARTSURPRISE was a good reason to intensify this. The artist created 100 exclusive drawings, each one the result of a meditation. This art form comes from Asia, and there are masters in it. They meet once a year in Tokyo and show their new works.
In the following years, Schröpfer also took part in a dynamic exhibition on the Obenbaum Bridge in Berlin. There he was discovered by one of these masters and he was invited to show his works in Tokyo, the highest recognition that can be given to someone in this field of art (Zen ink painting).
Be lucky if you own one of these early works.
