Amazing citizens in civil wars

Future generations will consider the fall of the Berlin Wall as the true beginning of a new European migration of the peoples. Europes powerful attraction to the world is fed by its attractive social system and its low birth rate.

Europe is becoming a melting pot of a new global future. Driven by cultural and political innovation, people try out new concepts of social life and interaction.

From Africa and Asia they pour into Europe and come in as new citizens of this world. Globalization makes any war a civil war! Whether in Africa, Asia, the Middle East or right at our doorstep on Plaza Catalunya in Barcelona, everywhere amazing young citizens call for equitable access to the worlds resources.

The intelligence of the swarm will indicate the direction and it is always the right one. Let us listen to the wisdom of the crowds. Now.

Juan Petry, Cologne, Barcelona, 2011

Lets have another flashback to our realier series in the social art project ARTSURPRISE. Back in 2011 ARTSURPRISE started in the City of Bochum in an abandoned building called Rotunde. It was the first time to show an ARTSURPRISE machine in public, with 200 boxes inside.

This first machine was also equipped with some boxes from this series. And this series has a long history. When I started to notice the social impact of the introduction of computer technology in the 1980s, when I started programming simulations of people's movements in rooms in the 1990s and shortly afterwards held the first online workshop in Germany together with the city of Cologne, my real interest was always in people. At the same time, I recognized the challenge for future generations to take these new technologies out of the hands of the inventors and promoters with their dystopian intentions and to transform them into something humane, sustainably good.
Looking back, this series and the concept behind it, which has accompanied me for many years now, seems to have been a pointer to today's conditions.
At that time, the aim in Bochum was to create and show a new form of contemporary art, but from the beginning it was not just an attempt to find new lovers of contemporary art. It was also a matter of finding people for new ideas to organize coexistence in the human family. To do this, it was first necessary to create awareness of the circumstances. Contemporary art is a powerful tool for this.
