Trashporustpomobile and more from Diane Keys

It's trashpo, and it's rustpo, and it hangs:

Opening this was like ZING--is it my birthday?--it would be hard to choose one, but this has to be my all-time favorite from Diane. It is a major hit here. I hung it on a post for its very first photo:But it is already blowing around to different, 360-degree spots. It must be seen from all angles, and listened to. Diane's daughter helped her pick out the parts, and also included was a great little collage by her daughter, on corrugated cardboard, which I also love: Is she a chip off the old block or what? Other found stuff was in the envelope, as well as this collage by Diane:

Oh man, only 4 images this time??? The site is forcing this last piece to be the first comment below. Thanks again for all, Diane, this whole envelope is fabulous.

It does, doesn't it, and sometimes she accomplishes that using bits of very ordinary words--terms or phrases.

That's the thing, DK. You almost always manage to have letters, words text in things you do. I read it and it's like this DaDaist poetry but even more has this strange counter-logic to it that makes sense on some level. If you are looking closely at definitions, I think the use of language in some way or another separates Trashpo from just making assemblages & collage from trash - that is fairly common, not that there is anything wrong with that. But Trashpo has another dimension.

Thanks for posting Nancy-the mobile was really fun to make for you. When my daughter asks if she can make art with me, I'm always surprised when she decides to use my trash, as I always think I am the only person who sees it other than a pile of garbage. We actually do have some more 'normal' art materials. And you're right DVS, Carina's trashpoem that she made really inspired me and I've been making a lot of them. It's a great way to use art scraps and I find it relaxing and therapeutic to make nonsense, stream of consciousness sentences

Now that you mention it, DK has done a few - what I think are really successful Trashpoems in that form. She said at least part of the idea came from a piece Carina Granlund did. It is certainly like what seems to be intended in the earliest Jim Leftwich pieces.

DK took random bits of language and strung them together in the form of a poem - in a linear way. You could transcribe it into a poem on a page. You could read it. really great stuff.

Yah, the collage is minimalist for her, isn't it? It really works. And the trashmobile ... ... ...

Nancy, I can see why the Trashmobile is one of your all-time DK favs. I think it is one of mine too, given I haven't seen the real thing. It's incredible.

That Trashpo you posted below is also a particularly excellent one, I think.
