Trashaeology Expedition at Piney Creek Acres

Inspired by DK's recent trashpo videos and the discussion which broke out on my previous blog post, Oh! For the Love of Trash! (which can be found here: http://iuoma-network.ning.com/profiles/blogs/oh-for-the-love-of-tra...) Moo and I set out to see what we could discover of the remains of an old trash pit out back.

Meet Moo!

She is my crazy, wild-eyed, D-Kanine Kocker who accompanies me on my trashpo hunts here at Piney Creek Acres. For those of you who may think that Snooky's D-Kanine Kin are laying down on the job, we are here to inform all of the misnomer! 

It had been two years since my last foray into the pit and I wasn't hopeful, as the weeds have grown high this season. I guess that's why I left my camera in the house. We had better luck than I thought, as the sun glinted off glass jars hidden amongst the overgrowth. I began pulling some weeds and uncovering bits. I managed to keep Moo out of the broken glass despite the fact that we were singing Annie Lennox's "Walking on Broken Glass" as we worked. (Here, it must be said that I was thinking a great deal of Nancy Bell Scott as I shook numerous glass bits from the roots of the weeds I pulled.)

Later, I went back and got a couple shots of our progress...

Of course, I brought a spade along this time and continued digging for what seemed like ages in the hot sun. (In reality, it was only half an hour, but in my defense, the heat was brutal!) By the time I stopped, this is how the piles looked:

There were no less than a dozen rusted mower blades buried there. Again, I was thinking of Nancy and her penchant for rusty objects.

There was a fair amount of GOOD trash available for use in collage and assemblage projects; an old tea kettle, 2 aluminum ice tray dividers, a large percolator filter, a partially melted bottle, a broken piece of a sunflower dish, two rusted drawer handles, and numerous other objects, including a vintage coke bottle opener! I was thrilled with my haul for the day! Please join me again next time, on Trashaeology Expedition, when we will dig deeper into the trash pit at Piney Creek Acres!

WOW! Great blog, Lynn, and what a stash you returned with from your expedition. You deserve a medal, and no doubt DVS or Diane could come up with one. Especially in the heat, but man, you found some nitty-gritty stuff. Many congrats. Glad to meet Moo and was wondering who she was (you mentioned her in another blog recently), especially when my sister is a Moo and I've never met another one. Or at least that's what I called her when we were 0 and 1 year of age and it stuck. Your Moo is adorable--love that wild and crazy look. Does she look like that all the time or was it just because of the trashpo hunt? That face, now THAT is the way to wake up in the morning.
