It arrived like this.  Yes, this is a real 3D handmade old fashion triangle trivet.  I remember my grandparents having one just like this one.  Unfortunately one day my mean grandmother threw it at my nice grandfather while saying something in German, and it broke.  Then my grandfather put it in the wood stove. (It was before we had microwaves ovens.)  I was too small to know what it was all about or what she said in German.  So I continued to play with my red fire truck as nothing ever happened. Now I find many years after that these things must have the same history of creating hardship.  It reads: "Maybe you can use this.  It reminds me too much of a mean spirited man who died in 2015 and so I have culled it.  It is like him: Meagre, un-aesthetic with a parsimonious streak.  Totally utilitarian + loveless."

Too bad he never met my grandmother, they would have made a lovely couple.  But then again, maybe they're together now. (He says while looking down.)

Thank you Rebecca.  It's rare when Mail Art takes you on an emotional rollercoaster, but this one hit the jackpot.  I have friends who have a wood burner, but for now it's hanging on the wall.

Thanks for a great blog, Dean! I like to think that when it goes in the wood burner / on the bonfire that it will be keeping someone warm. I knew you were the right one to send it to. and I am relieved to be without it.
