I nearly jumped out of my skin when I saw this. Does he know what he sent me?, I thought. I mean, this is an original vintage Pan Am waste bag. (They use to be called Sick bags, but for politically correctness the name was changed to Waste bag. Now a day the politically correct term for it is; Flight bag. So far this name has not offended any person or group.) And inside was not a barfing matter, although all those tiny bits of paper fell on the shag carpet when I opened the envelope. That was a little annoying, but I soon got over it.
And look at all the treasure within. As Anaxagoras (500BC-428BC) use to say; "one man's leftovers is another man's Treasure." Although I believe the politically correct term now is "person".And I did find a little Tofu masterpiece swimming around inside. YES!
Tofu also explained that he found the original vintage Pan Am waste bag at a yard sale on 15th Street and picked it up for 10 cents. Somewhere I read that people actually collect flight bags. The most expensive was a Court Line Aviation bag for $220 USD. Other rare bags are the "Emesis bag" from the space shuttle, (which is made from fabric), and ones from Air Force One.
In some countries the design is a work of art. I found a barf quote; "Scandinavian bags are beautiful, since they see utilitarian items as an opportunity for artistic expression and this commitment is reflected on their bags."
Thank you Tofu, I know it's the thought that really counts.
PS: A Rare Guna Airlines Nepal Sickness Bag / Himilayan flight sick bag Nepalese is currently on ebay for $50 USD.
Comment
Yep, that's me, but I have a few less muscles now.
Oh, that is a RARE, very rare PanAm Flight Bag!
and wonderful contents that Tofu sent inside, too!
I am so glad it made it. That little bit of art incorporated sheet music from a Carmen Miranda movie. The Grinch Army sticker was part of Christmas shopping/disruption protest in Boston circa 1989. And yes, I too lose bits of things in the shag carpeting - it is an occupational hazard. - Tofu
