Nudity in Mail Art - Call for Entries - Deadline: February 14, 2009

I chose Valentine's Day for the deadline for this call because I'm in a silly mood tonight. I am inviting everyone to send mail art on the theme of nudity. What does nudity represent for you? What kind of nudity are you comfortable with? What makes nudity sexual? What kind of nudity appeals to you? Have you made a nude self-portrait or been the subject of a nude work of art? What feelings does nudity create in you?

Be honest if you can - or be silly - or be angry or any other emotion. It's all acceptable!

Some things won't arrive, of course, if they offend the postal workers or the postal rules. So, if in doubt, send two copies - one visible to the world, one inside an envelope. Or take your chances and see what happens! Or send me your work via email.

I will make a booklet on the show for all participants.

Given the discussion here at IUOMA about nude women as models, I am challenging everyone, especially the men, to talk about and/or make art about male nudity as well as female nudity, or instead of female nudity. But, every kind of nudity is okay... even just a discussion of nudity! :)

Yours, in the mail,

I sent it out back in 09!  Haven't heard of any other people not receiving theirs.  Sorry to hear this.

Did you send out the chapbook?

It never reached me.

Oh, some statistics for the Nudity in Mail Art Show... there were 42 participants from 13 countries. Within the US, there were participants from 12 states. The breakdown is as follows:

Canada - 6
Chile - 2 (joint entry)
France - 2
Greece - 1
Ireland - 1
Italy - 4
Korea - 2
México - 2
The Netherlands - 2
Portugal - 1
Spain - 2
Turkey - 1
USA - 16

Breakdown of the US States - 5 from California and 1 each from Colorado, District of Columbia, Idaho, Illinois, Kansas, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Vermont, and Washington.

The chapbook is 46 pages plus the front and back covers and there are two double-sided loose inserts (a participant list with snail and email addresses with a list of artists and which page their work is on as well as any titles - and - a mail art call sent in with a submission as well as a selection of calls I know about which won't be over by the time these reach their destination). I wish I could have fit all of the calls currently listed here in IUOMA but they wouldn't fit on a single sheet of paper so I chose randomly.

Now I can relax for a day at least - and get some really peaceful sleep tonight. :)

Whew! It's done at last. :) This is the largest full-color chapbook I've made and it was a bear to produce but now that it's finished, I'm very happy with it and hope you all will be, too. I'll put them in the mail tomorrow from the post office, first class, and hope they will reach everyone within a week or, at most, ten days. Given that mail here has been slow lately, I suppose it could take two weeks. Crossing my fingers! :) Thank you all for participating and making this such a nice collection of images and concepts. Mwaah! (That was a big kiss to you all. :)

And something great from Dewi by email so I'm all set with the images for the documentation. Very cool. :)

In the meantime, two other pieces have arrived! Which is cool. :) One cool one from MaryAnn Johnston and one cool one from Nolan.

The documentation is almost complete but I am waiting for one last piece which was sent a few weeks ago hoping it will arrive. I think it's worth waiting for - but you'll have to be the judge when you receive the booklet. :)

No problem. You'll be together in the documentation. Thanks for letting me know you want it that way. :)
