Part of the exhibition: Best before...

Stephanie Roland
Science Fiction Postcards (2013)

You can make this artwork visible yourself. Take one of these inky black postcards from the rack and hold it against the heating panel. With your cooperation, this work of art by Stephanie Roland comes to life.

Underwater - When a card is heated you will see an island appear that has already disappeared or is about to disappear due to the rising sea level. Such as Wulpeneiland, which was once located in the Dutch North Sea. Hart Island near New York, where many corona victims are buried, will probably no longer exist in the twenty-sixth century.

Other islands, such as Tegua in the Pacific, are disappearing much earlier. It is now partly under water. The residents of Tegua were named the very first climate refugees by the United Nations in 2005.
How can people survive in a world that is changing due to rising temperatures?

Where islands are disappearing due to global warming, Stephanie Roland makes them visible with heat.
