"MEMORY" from Richmond Art Gallery...not VA but BC!

Back in Nov.2013, the Richmond Art Gallery had an international Mail Art Exhibit

that is "RAG" of Richmond, Canada in British Columbia, and not of Richmond, Virginia, USA :-)

Part of the exhibit was "exchange",

so when they took down the exhibit, they sent out mail art that they had received

to the participants randomly, these are two cards that came to me:

One is by Marty Carr of Stroudburg, PA and

the other is by Keith Bloodworth from Canada.

Now i shall get-to-know these mail artists by sending mail art to them personally.

What a fantastic idea!

From the website of RAG (Richmond Art Gallery):

of Richmond, British Columbia, Canada, (not Richmond, Virginia, USA :-)

IUOMA was a sponsor and they also had a "Tear It Up" collage session:

November 17, 2013 – January 12, 2014
Opening Reception: Nov 16, 3:00-5:00pm

Mail Art (aka Postal Art) is a long-standing art practice where artists collaborate and exchange artworks through the postal service. Over 650 artists from all over the world mailed in original postcards based on the theme of “memory” for this 2nd biennial exhibition. This broad theme may include individual memories, collective memory, a favourite memory, memory loss, memorization, in memoriam, and any other interpretations of the word “memory”.

This exhibit is not juried and anyone is welcome to participate to maintain the egalitarian tradition of Mail Art. The exhibition is intended to be a cultural exchange for both the artists and the gallery audience. Artists are able exhibit their work in the Art Gallery and online, and then receive a new artwork at the end of the exhibit as part of the “swap”. For the viewer, the exhibition presents a glimpse into a considerable number of artists’ works from all over the world, many of whom may have never before exhibited in Canada.
