Thanks for the explanation, it is nice to know, I didn't understand if he was funny of frightening.

He looks quite harmless to me! I am glad you didn't send me real cow bladder, lol!

This is a Vejigante  ( bay-he-gahn-tay) A colorful character  first introduce to carnaval celebrations hundreds of years ago in Puerto Rico. he is an example of the blending of African, Spanish and carribean influences in Puerto Rico culture.Masks are made of Paper machie in Ponce and of coconuts in Loiza, both towns where the tradition of the Vejigante iis very Strong.  Costume is made of scraps of fabric and looks like a clown suit with cape and bat wings under the arms. The Vejigante is sush an old character that it is even mention in the classic novel Don Quixote written in 1605.
