Juan Petry - See You Soon - S1
When I was a young child I had nightmares about pattern fields. I was frightened about seeing so many and so beautiful pattern fields and I saw clearly, that they did not fit together.
The amazing patterns, the variation of colour and space, the speed, this all was exciting. Only the tragedy that they did not match, frustrated me in those dreams. I remember that I had those dreams a lot of times.
45 years later I look back and realize that these patterns are following me all the time. The good news: now they fit (in my life). So there is a good end to this story. I saw patterns in my dreams, I see patterns all the time in my life and they guard me in my simulation of life.
To see patterns at all, is a gift, a treasure, and sometimes it is hard to see them and to be unable to make them fitting. see you soon reflects this little private history and points out, that we are all part of something big. Look at the patterns. Understand.
Doing art is storytelling. And storytelling is the main motivation for communication. It is the unconditional will to communicate, to make oneself heard. This social interaction aims to provoke a reaction in others that one can then refer to oneself. Like an echo for exploring the environment, storytelling serves one's own navigation.
The desire to give oneself "respect" is a deeply embedded system of social credits and much higher in value than money. There is a pattern in social interactions as well. People exchange money for social credits. You can steal money from a person or you could convince them to donate money to an entity whos supporting poor kids in Africa. You feel better in the second case, anyway, the money is gone. This series is reminiscent of these social patterns that keep cropping up. As a visual artist I am much in favor of the visible part. But it can also be heard in the music, felt in the texture of the surfaces and tasted in the food we eat.
The more we learn to recognize these patterns, the more we learn about ourselves.
