What is it about this time of year?  Do other artists "shut down"? Is this a common problem amongst those who create?

Shortly after the stores begin decorating for the holidays, before the first Christmas carol on the radio......my muse, my desire to create, leaves. Its just GONE. Phoof!

Oh, I try. I try hard. So far I've made the ugly-est Christmas Ball you've ever seen. Followed by a even uglier candle holder, etc, etc.  It exhausts me.  This may be "Holiday Depression", or just old age and expectations that are far too grand for a grandma .

Sorry about the whining.  But I'm feeling "empty".

And I really am wondering if other artists feel the same way.

huh?

I've just finished a good book by Mason Currey called 'Daily Routines'. It decsribes how 200 or so creative artists, writers, composers, etc go about their work. A theme that comes through is the need to have a daily routine.... and stick with it, come what may.

Or as Lisa (and Nike) say, 'Just Do It'.

Don't thi nk about it: Do It!

Good luck. Good bye.

Actually this Christmas I have become more creative and started to my own cards and decorations. Ever since August I felt extremely blocked and had little energy to make stuff. Then came November found myself studying. In way I know how you feel, I get inspired whenever I read magazine, watch art programmes but can't motivate myself to make art.

Like what Karin said do some journalling to pinpoint what is causing this block, try do some morning/afternoon/evening pages. These are 3 pages of writing, I find the first page is the dump/release page and when you reach the second and third it becomes clear how to over problem.

Christmas is not so bad it is after New Year,2 more months of dark, cold winter. So depressing.

Elvis lives in trhe village next to mine, right next door to Michael Jackson. Across the way lives Buddy Holly.

There's some good music in that lil village on Friday nights. Jim Morrison and Brian Jones were guests at the Friday night gigs last month.

Come and see them all -- that will cheer you up!

You are in need of an Art Jounal where you can get out of you mess so that the beads come to the surface again....I think. ;)
