Interesting mail from Richard Canard. The concrete canoe is something I recognize, since I work on a technical collega, and one department of our college used to take part in these contetst and build them too. Not the Holland America Line though, but the connections are very interesting. The funny details are the waves-part of the address on the enveloppe. Really appreciated this sence of humor.......

The first reinforced concrete boat was tested 163 years ago in France.

The first reinforced concrete was invented not by a builder or a shipbuilder but by a simple gardener in Paris Joseph Monier (1823-1906). He looked for stable substances to create better pots for palms and accidentally created what today is called reinforced concrete. He patented the invention, but later sold the copyrights at the first opportunity and lost the chance to make huge profits.

I run by this boat which is undergoing a million euro restoration program.  Imagine how many stamps you could buy for a million euros!

Fun stuff from Richard.  Thanks for the blog.
