Asemic, scientific, literary mail art from Svenja Wahl

First we have the caterpillar climbing asemic writing and a branch:

Then we have the ultimate butterfly on the back:

I love the composition and subjects, and don't know how Svenja knew that I'm a wildlife creature lover, but another one graces the back of the envelope the card came in (along with more asemic writing, and I sure hope I'm not calling the German language asemic):

The front of the envelope is a very appealing collage unto itself, and includes a font that calls out to me:

Svenja also included something that is extra special to me.  Her note partly says, "I loved your Rilke discussion with Theresa and thought about you when I found this calendar page showing Rilke's office where he wrote the 'Duino Elegies' " (well, she wrote that title in German, which unfortunately I don't know).  Svenja knows from that discussion that Rilke means a great deal to me; I did my senior thesis on his Duino Elegies, and he and the elegies have influenced my thinking and my life ever since.

I am very moved, Svenja, that you were so thoughtful to send me this.  Thank you, thank you, thank you, for everything you sent!

That's a riot, Svenja. I went back just before publishing the post to insert the disclaimer, just in case. Good thing! Haven't heard of Theodor Fontane, but if you can't decipher any letter, then we can still claim him as an asemic writer, eh? It's extremely attractive writing, by the way. Thanks again, and I will mail some art out to you this week.

Thank you both, I'm so glad you liked it! (Nancy, I had to laugh, because you asked: the asemic is indeed some old german handwriting from Theodor Fontane, I don't know if you know him in the US?, but I can't really decipher any letter at all!) Happy to be your IUOMA-friend!

You bet, Lisa. It was a happy piece of mail art to receive, and then Svenja's extra thoughtfulness made my day.
