I thought it was a little strange that 11 new people joined IUOMA at the exact same time.  Just a heads up (no pun intended) I'm thinking we've got some ghost accounts that just opened and one…Continue

Why I am involved in Mail-Art:
“If you give ten kids a camera and ask them to take a picture of the same subject, you’ll get ten wildly different photos. If you do the same with adults, you’ll get ten of the same thing.” –middle school photography teacher, 1991

Sixteen years ago, in 2002, inspired by projects like the 1000journals project (1,000 blank journals are sent out into the world for strangers to fill), I had an idea. I would send a mannequin head, which I had recently rescued from a thrift store, around the world, from person to person, and give each participant two weeks to do something creative with it. What they did was entirely up to them as long as they documented it with photos and/or video. At the end of two weeks, the head would be mailed to the next person on the list. It would be an ongoing, worldwide, collaborative art experiment; a traveling head project.

Fifteen years later, I'm relaunching the project, this time with GPS-enabled mannequin heads.

So who wants a 'naked' head in the mail?

Posted on August 17, 2018 at 5:52pm 3 Comments

Just weeks away from launching my Kickstarter for The Head Project I thought I might have some fun.  I want to send a 'naked' mannequin head to someone.  I will simply write your address on the head, apply the postage, and deliver it to the post office.

So who wants it?  I prefer someone in the U.S. to keep shipping costs down.

I’m not just an empty head.

I’m having all sorts of ideas.

“Naked” head to be sent through mail.

Posted on August 15, 2018 at 3:10pm 2 Comments

I just returned from the post office with some inspiring news. They will send a “naked” (no box, packaging) mannequin head through the mail. When asked, the clerk said, “Yeah, so long as it has postage and an address, return address as well, we’ll send it. I’d have to take a picture of that.”

I think I’d like to try this.
